Meadow Lakes Holiday Park
You know what caught me off guard about Meadow Lakes Holiday Park? I was expecting your typical caravan site vibe, but this place actually has some serious character tucked away near Hewas Water. It’s one of those spots that doesn’t fit neatly into any category – not quite a traditional hotel, definitely not a standard holiday park, but something more interesting in between.
The location is honestly pretty clever when you think about it. You’re about fifteen minutes from St Austell proper, which means you can duck into town for proper groceries or a decent coffee without the hassle of staying right in the thick of things. But here’s the thing – being set back from the main roads means it’s genuinely quiet at night. I mean, you might hear the odd car on the B3274, but mostly it’s just countryside sounds. The whole setup feels more like staying at someone’s country estate than a commercial operation, which I suspect is exactly what they’re going for. There’s this boutique hotel quality to how everything’s arranged, even though they’ve never bothered with official star ratings (smart move, actually – those systems never quite capture places like this anyway).
What really works here is how they’ve handled the details that most places mess up. The parking situation is straightforward – no hunting around for spaces or worrying about whether your car’s going to get boxed in. Check-in was refreshingly normal too, none of that forced cheerfulness you get at bigger chains. The facilities feel well-maintained without being precious about it, if that makes sense. You can tell someone actually cares about the place rather than just running it as a business. I noticed they’ve got the balance right between giving you space to do your own thing and being helpful when you need something. During the summer months it definitely gets busier – you’ll want to book ahead if you’re thinking July or August – but even then it doesn’t feel cramped or chaotic.
The area around Hewas Water is perfect for that kind of low-key exploring that’s hard to do when you’re staying somewhere more touristy. You can walk down to the water easily enough, and if you’re into that sort of thing, the fishing’s supposed to be decent (though I can’t vouch for that personally). What I can say is that you’re well-positioned for day trips – the Eden Project’s close enough that you could pop over without making it your whole day, and you’ve got proper Cornwall countryside in every direction. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra night because you realize you’re actually relaxing for once. The 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does well.

Quiet location and site. Perfect base for exploring the local area. Lovely site, friendly staff. Woodland walk, farm animals, play park and outdoor pool was plenty to keep my 6yo happy in between our adventures.

The facilities were spot-on, adequate kitchen as well as corockery and cutlery, comfortable furniture, sleeping arrangements were fine Great to have the chickens roaming freely, especially for grandson's enetertainment, and of course the animals over the back, in the field. Happy with the noise levels too, very quiet and peaceful, very relaxing.
