Tucked away in Newtown Longnor – and I mean properly tucked away, you’ll definitely need your GPS working because the Peak District lanes around here love to play hide and seek with visitors – it’s got this boutique feel that nobody really talks about online. The whole setup feels more like staying at someone’s incredibly well-thought-out country retreat than a typical holiday park.

I’ll be straight with you – the accommodation here isn’t your standard hotel room situation. They’ve got these gorgeous lodges and cabins that are, well, actually quite sophisticated. The interiors surprised me because you expect basic holiday park furniture, but there’s real attention to detail here. Proper kitchens if you want to cook (and honestly, with Buxton being a bit of a drive for dinner options, you might want to), decent beds that don’t creak every time you move, and – this matters more than you’d think – proper heating that actually works during those chilly Peak District evenings. The WiFi’s reliable too, which is saying something for this part of Derbyshire where signal can be patchy at best.

The grounds are genuinely peaceful; you can hear the countryside properly here, not just the A515 traffic (which is blessedly distant). There’s something almost therapeutic about waking up to actual birdsong instead of car doors slamming. The location puts you right in the sweet spot for exploring – Longnor village itself is charming in that understated Staffordshire way, and you’re perfectly positioned for walks along the Manifold Valley or even ambitious hikes up to Chrome Hill if that’s your thing. Actually, the walking directly from the park is brilliant – you can set off on footpaths without having to drive anywhere first, which feels like a luxury these days. Parking at your accommodation is sorted, obviously, but they’ve also thought about things like where to store muddy boots and wet coats, which shows they understand their clientele. The 8.6 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just works properly, and in a setting this beautiful, that’s exactly what you want.
