Longnor Wood Holiday Park
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Longnor Wood Holiday Park, I’ll be honest — the name doesn’t quite capture what this place actually is. Sure, it’s technically a holiday park, but this four-star property feels more like a collection of well-appointed woodland retreats than your typical caravan site. Set in the rolling hills near Longnor, the park sits on what feels like its own private slice of the Peak District, with mature trees creating natural boundaries between accommodations and genuine countryside views stretching in every direction.
The Accommodations
The lodges here are honestly impressive — I stayed in one of their premium units and was surprised by how spacious and well-designed everything felt. Each apartment-style lodge comes with a proper kitchen that’s actually equipped for real cooking (not just reheating), which I appreciated after long days exploring the area. The living spaces have large windows that frame the woodland perfectly, and you know what really struck me? The attention to detail in the furnishings — nothing felt cheap or temporary, despite being holiday accommodation.
Location and Surroundings
Location-wise, this place really delivers on that countryside escape feeling without being completely isolated. Longnor village is just a short walk away, and while it’s small, there’s a decent pub and some lovely stone cottages that give you that proper Derbyshire atmosphere. What couples seem to love most (and I can see why they rate it so highly) is how peaceful it gets in the evenings — you’re far enough from main roads that the only sounds are birds and maybe the occasional sheep from neighboring fields.
Amenities and Activities
The facilities surprised me, actually. There’s an indoor pool that’s kept at a comfortable temperature year-round, and the on-site restaurant serves better food than you’d expect — they focus on local ingredients and do a particularly good Sunday roast. Parking is never an issue since each lodge has its own designated space, which is handy when you’re loading up for hiking trips. The walking trails that start right from the property are brilliant — you can be on proper Peak District footpaths within minutes, heading toward Manifold Valley or up to the higher moors around Longnor Edge.
Why Guests Love It
I think what makes this place work so well is that balance between comfort and nature. You get the peace and scenery of a rural retreat, but your room (well, lodge really) has everything you need for a proper holiday — decent Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, and that fully equipped kitchen I mentioned. The staff seem to understand that people come here to unwind, so service is helpful but never intrusive. It’s the kind of place where you can spend a morning hiking the limestone dales, come back for a swim and a good meal, then settle in for the evening with views of the countryside right outside your window. For couples especially, it hits that sweet spot of romantic countryside setting without feeling too remote or rustic.

Candice
Really enjoyed our visit. Clean and spotless, hot tub ready on arrival (and we arrived a little early). Everything you could want was in place. Each designed to be very private and ensured we knew how to work everything. Comfy bed, good heating (it had snowed when we arrived). Perfect.
