Lochend Chalets

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what’s funny about finding Lochend Chalets? I’d driven past the Port of Menteith turnoff probably a dozen times heading to the Trossachs, never realizing there was this little gem tucked away by Scotland’s only natural lake. When you finally make that turn off the A81, it honestly feels like you’ve stumbled into one of those places that locals have been keeping to themselves.
The chalets themselves are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbors through thin walls – something I definitely wasn’t expecting at this price point. Mine overlooked the loch, and I mean properly overlooked it, not some glimpse-if-you-crane-your-neck situation. The furnishing is that sweet spot between rustic and actually comfortable; proper beds, a kitchen that works if you want to cook (the Spar in Aberfoyle is about ten minutes away for supplies), and thankfully, reliable heating because Scottish evenings get nippy even in summer. The WiFi actually worked too, which isn’t always a given in these more remote spots.
What really sets this place apart, though, is the location – and I mean beyond just “pretty views.” You’re literally a five-minute walk from where they run those boat trips to Inchmahome Priory, which honestly is worth doing even if you think you’re not into historical ruins. The whole area around Lake Menteith is perfect for those early morning walks when the mist is still hanging over the water and you might spot some of the local wildlife. Plus, you’re positioned perfectly for day trips – Stirling’s about twenty minutes if you want proper restaurants and shops, but you can also head deeper into the Trossachs for hiking. I actually used it as a base for tackling Ben Venue, which worked out brilliantly since I could come back to an actual comfortable bed instead of camping.
The staff – well, it’s not a huge operation, but the folks running it clearly know the area and actually want to help rather than just going through the motions. They sorted out some local walking route suggestions that weren’t just the obvious touristy ones, and parking is straightforward with plenty of space. Check-in was refreshingly simple too; none of that corporate hotel rigmarole. Honestly, with that 9.5 rating, I was half-expecting some catch or disappointment, but it’s one of those rare places that actually delivers on what it promises. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re expecting resort-style amenities, this isn’t that – but if you want a genuinely comfortable base for exploring this part of Scotland without feeling like you’re roughing it, Lochend Chalets hits that mark perfectly.

The accommodation was clean, spacious, and well equipped. The views were absolutely outstanding. Immediate access to the lake from your chalet. It's the most stunning and peaceful location we've visited. The play area and grounds were lovely, too. We are planning on visiting again next year. But next time, book through their own website.
