You know what struck me first about Liberty Lykia? It’s not right on Ölüdeniz beach like most people expect – it’s actually tucked back in Kıdrak, which honestly works out better. The hotel sits on this hillside spot where you get these ridiculous views over the lagoon without all the beach chaos right outside your door. I mean, Ölüdeniz can get absolutely mental during peak season (especially July-August when the Russian and British crowds descend), but here you’re removed enough to actually relax while still being maybe a 10-minute walk down to the famous blue lagoon everyone comes to see.

The property itself feels properly luxurious without being stuffy about it. They’ve got this Mediterranean vibe going – lots of white stone and blue accents that actually complement the natural setting instead of fighting with it. The pools are what really sold me though. There’s the main infinity pool that seems to just drop off into the sky, and honestly, I spent way too many mornings there with Turkish coffee watching paragliders launch from Babadağ mountain. Speaking of which, if you’re into paragliding, this is literally one of the world’s best spots for it – you’ll see people floating down all day, and the hotel can sort out bookings if you’re feeling brave. The rooms are spacious (got a sea view on the third floor that was worth every extra lira), and the beds are actually comfortable, which… well, you can’t always count on that even in five-star places. Air conditioning works properly too, which you’ll need because Turkish summers don’t mess around.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the area properly – not just the touristy bits. When I asked about hiking trails, the concierge told me about this path that connects to the Lycian Way near Kayaköy, the old Greek village ruins. It’s about a 20-minute drive away and completely worth it if you want to escape the beach scene for an afternoon. The hotel restaurant does solid Mediterranean food, though honestly, you’d be crazy not to explore Fethiye’s fish market and harbor area for dinner – it’s maybe 15 minutes by dolmuş (those shared minibuses locals use). Just grab one from the main road; they run constantly during summer. One tiny complaint: the WiFi gets spotty on the upper floors, but then again, you’re in one of Turkey’s most beautiful spots, so maybe that’s not the worst thing. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you factor in the location, the views, and how they’ve managed to feel upscale without losing that Turkish hospitality warmth. If you’re looking for a base to explore the Turquoise Coast properly – and I mean really explore it, not just instagram the lagoon and leave – this place gets it right.
