Lagrange Vacances Les Mazets de Gaujac

Lagrange Vacances Les Mazets de Gaujac Overview
Honestly, when I first pulled up to Les Mazets de Gaujac, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the GPS led me through some pretty quiet country roads in the Gard department, and I mean quiet. But once you turn into Quartier Precabrian, you immediately get why this place works so well. It’s tucked away in this peaceful pocket where you can actually hear the cicadas in summer instead of traffic, which is sort of miraculous when you’re only about 20 minutes from Nîmes.
The setup here is really clever, actually. Instead of your typical hotel block, they’ve gone with these individual mazets – basically small Provençal-style houses that give you way more space and privacy than you’d expect from a 3-star place. Each one has its own little terrace, and I spent way too many mornings out there with coffee, watching the mist roll off the surrounding vineyards. The interiors are nothing fancy, but they’re genuinely comfortable – think IKEA meets rustic French countryside, which sounds weird but totally works. You’ll have a proper kitchenette (the fridge actually keeps things cold, unlike some places I could mention), and the beds are surprisingly good. I mean, I’m picky about mattresses, and I slept like a rock.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how well it fits into the whole Languedoc experience without trying too hard. You’re a stone’s throw from some seriously underrated wine country – the Costières de Nîmes vineyards are literally right there, and the locals will point you toward tastings that tourists never find. Plus, you’ve got easy access to both Nîmes for the Roman stuff and Avignon if you want to day-trip north, but honestly, I found myself just wanting to stay put and explore the smaller villages around here. Gaujac itself is tiny but has this one café where the owner makes these incredible sandwiches with local ingredients – nothing fancy, just really good bread and cheese and tomatoes that actually taste like something.
The pool area gets busy during French vacation periods (you know, when basically the entire country goes on holiday in August), but most of the time it’s pretty chill. Parking is easy, which is a blessing if you’ve ever tried to navigate a rental car through some of the medieval town centers around here. Check-in was straightforward, and the staff seemed genuinely local – they had good recommendations that went beyond the obvious tourist spots. My only real complaint is that the WiFi can be spotty, but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on what you’re looking for in a vacation. If you want to disconnect a bit and just soak up that slower pace of life in the Gard countryside, this place nails it without breaking the bank.
