First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Lagrange Vacances Les Bastides de Lascaux, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a typical vacation complex. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you quietly. This four-star property sits tucked away in the Dordogne countryside, and there’s something immediately calming about the way it blends into the rolling hills around Montignac. The stone buildings have that authentic Périgord feel — not flashy, just genuinely French in the best possible way.
Location and Local Charm
The location is actually brilliant, and I mean that. You’re literally minutes from the famous Lascaux caves, which is obviously why most people end up here, but what I loved was how peaceful it felt despite being so close to a major tourist attraction. The parking is free and right on-site, which saved me the headache of hunting for spots in Montignac’s narrow streets. Couples seem to absolutely love this area — I can see why, with all those scenic walking paths that wind through the valley. It’s the kind of place where you can explore prehistoric art in the morning and still feel like you’re escaping into nature.
The Accommodation Experience
My apartment was more spacious than I expected, with a proper kitchen that actually made cooking a pleasure rather than a chore. The furnishings are comfortable without trying too hard — think modern functionality with touches of regional character. What really impressed me was how quiet everything was; you’d think being in a complex would mean noise, but the layout gives each unit real privacy. The views from my terrace looked out over the Vézère valley, and honestly, watching the morning mist lift off those limestone cliffs never got old.
Dining and Amenities
There’s an on-site restaurant that serves solid regional cuisine — nothing revolutionary, but they do a mean confit de canard and the local wines are well-chosen. I actually ended up eating there more than I planned because the terrace seating was so pleasant in the evenings. The property also has a spa area with a pool that’s perfect after a day of cave exploring or hiking. It’s not huge, but it doesn’t need to be — sometimes smaller facilities feel more relaxing anyway.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is how it balances convenience with that sense of being away from it all. You’re close enough to all the Dordogne’s prehistoric sites and charming villages, but when you come back in the evening, it feels like a proper retreat. The staff clearly knows the area well — they gave me some excellent recommendations for lesser-known caves and local markets that I never would have found otherwise. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and after spending time here, I completely understand why. It’s one of those places that grows on you, where the combination of comfort, location, and genuine French countryside atmosphere just clicks.

Great value for money. Booked a second week direct. Less money and bigger house. For the same price per night as staying at a hostel where you get a bunk with others here I got a house to myself. Wow!
Simon
Have stayed before, in great location few mins walk from town. Great swimming pool on site.

Better than expected. Last reviews were discouraging, but we had no problems neither with the apartment nor the personnel. Apartment was clean, and well enough equipped. Yes, you need to put the sheets to the bed yourself but so what: that's mentioned and not a big deal. Center of the beautiful Montignac is close (15 minute walk) and you don't need...

We were travelling for work so did not use the pool but will take bathing suit if I return next year. The complex was very well laid out, it was quiet and the accommodation was very clean and confortable. Will book again when in the area.
Kelly
Well equipped and clean accomodation with comfortable beds and everything we needed. The site was immaculate and staff friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was excellent, always clean and quiet. Private patio with garden furniture. There is so much to see and do in the area with numerous historical attractions that are well presented and good...
