Balingup Jalbrook Cottages Jalbrook Estate
You know what caught me off guard about Balingup Jalbrook Cottages? The drive up Jayes Road itself – it’s this winding stretch that makes you feel like you’re heading somewhere genuinely special, not just another cookie-cutter accommodation. I mean, Balingup’s already got that whole charming country town thing going on (honestly, it’s almost too quaint sometimes), but once you turn into Jalbrook Estate, there’s this immediate sense that you’ve stumbled onto something the locals have been keeping to themselves.
The cottages are scattered across what used to be a working farm, and they’ve done this smart thing where each one feels completely private even though you’re technically sharing the property with other guests. Mine had this beautiful stone fireplace that actually worked – and trust me, you’ll want it during those surprisingly chilly evenings, even in what you’d think would be warm weather. The whole setup screams “weekend escape from Perth” but in the best possible way. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep that rustic charm without skimping on the stuff that actually matters – the shower pressure was fantastic, the bed was properly comfortable (not just Instagram-pretty), and there’s decent WiFi if you absolutely need to check emails. Though honestly, you’re better off just sitting on the veranda with a glass of wine from one of the nearby vineyards.
The location is actually pretty brilliant when you think about it. You’re close enough to Balingup’s main street to wander down for breakfast at that little café everyone raves about, but far enough out that you can hear the birds instead of traffic in the morning. Plus, if you’re into hiking or just want to explore the region, you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to places like Nannup or even the coast if you don’t mind a bit of driving. The staff – well, they’re more like friendly neighbors than hotel employees, really. They’ll tell you which local spots are worth your time and which ones are just tourist traps, though they do it in that subtle way where you don’t feel like you’re getting a sales pitch. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that corporate hotel rigmarole, just keys and genuine recommendations about where to grab dinner. I’d definitely go back, especially during autumn when the surrounding countryside looks absolutely spectacular and you can properly justify spending entire afternoons by that fireplace.

We would suggest to have bigger frying pan and saucepan.
We were 3 and found them a little bit small.

The cottage was delightful. Everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing and romantic night away from the hustle and bustle of life. The cottage is very private. We sat on the daybed on our balcony and watched the Fairy Wrens hop from bush to bush, and later on enjoyed our own private spa bath.

Nothing. Except that Alpacas were left in the pen one day, it would have been nice to have them close by again :)

Breakfast was ample, convenient to organise. Good sized fridge! Outlook was lovely, private and watching the llamas outside our cottage was a bonus. Beautiful bush land setting and lots of pretty roses and garden in general. The indoor fire was very efficient and added to the coziness of the setting. What could be improved: The front door did...
