Labernum Lodge – Springhouse Country Park
Labernum Lodge – Springhouse Country Park Overview
First Impressions
Pulling up to Labernum Lodge – Springhouse Country Park feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away in the Northumberland countryside. The lodge sits within this sprawling country park near Slaley, and honestly, the setting is what immediately grabs you — rolling hills, mature woodland, and that sense of being properly away from everything without actually being in the middle of nowhere. You’ll find parking right on-site, which is brilliant because you don’t want to be lugging bags across gravel paths after a long drive up from the south.
The Setting and Surroundings
What makes this four-star lodge special is how it balances accessibility with genuine countryside tranquility. The country park itself spans acres of mixed terrain — there are walking trails that wind through ancient woodland, open meadows where you might spot deer in the early morning, and even a small lake that’s perfect for an evening stroll. I mean, couples absolutely love it here (they rate the location over 9 out of 10), and you can see why. The nearest village of Slaley is just a short walk away, but you’re also within striking distance of Hexham and the broader Northumberland National Park if you fancy exploring further afield.
Accommodation and Comfort
The lodge accommodation feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together. Each room has that country house feel without being overly fussy — think comfortable furnishings, decent-sized windows that actually let you appreciate the views, and proper heating (which matters more than you’d think in this part of the world). The restaurant on-site serves solid British fare with a focus on local ingredients, and the staff seem to genuinely know the area well enough to point you toward hidden gems you wouldn’t find in guidebooks.
Activities and Local Knowledge
Here’s what I particularly appreciate about staying here — you’re perfectly positioned for both active pursuits and complete relaxation. The country park has its own network of trails, but you’re also close to some of Northumberland’s best walking country, including sections of Hadrian’s Wall that aren’t completely overrun with tour groups. The lodge can arrange everything from guided walks to cycling routes, and there’s something to be said for returning to a comfortable base after a day spent exploring the Pennines.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is that rare combination of genuine countryside peace and thoughtful hospitality. The location consistently gets top marks from guests, and you can see why — it’s that sweet spot where you feel properly immersed in nature without sacrificing comfort or convenience. Whether you’re planning romantic weekend breaks or just need to properly disconnect from city life, Labernum Lodge delivers on both fronts. The fact that it’s managed to maintain such high guest ratings while staying true to its countryside character says everything you need to know about the place.
Discover luxury resort villages that offer the perfect blend of intimate community atmosphere and world-class amenities, providing guests with unforgettable vacation experiences in stunning natural settings.

We love Springhouse, this was our 4th visit and second time in Labernum Lodge. The lodge has all the amenities you could need, including a washer/dryer, dishwasher and even lots of games. The location is perfect if you love the great outdoors. We got to see the stars so well due to so little light pollution, which was heaven. It's a lovely quiet...
