Homestead Cottages
First Impressions
You know what hits you first when you pull up to Homestead Cottages? The absolute quiet. I mean, you’re out on Road 600 in Ahwahnee, and it’s just… peaceful in a way that makes you realize how much noise you carry around in your head normally. This three-star property sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and honestly, the setting does most of the heavy lifting here — rolling hills, oak trees, and that particular golden light that California does so well.
The Cottages
Each cottage feels like someone’s well-loved weekend retreat rather than a hotel room. Mine had this cozy living area with a stone fireplace that actually worked (I tested it), and the kitchen was stocked with everything you’d need to make breakfast or heat up leftovers from town. The decor leans rustic without going full-on cabin kitsch — think comfortable furniture, local artwork, and windows that frame the surrounding countryside perfectly. The beds are genuinely comfortable, which isn’t always a given at smaller properties like this.
Location and Surroundings
Ahwahnee isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis, but that’s entirely the point. You’re about 20 minutes from Oakhurst if you need supplies or want to grab dinner at a proper restaurant, and Yosemite’s south entrance is maybe 45 minutes away — close enough for day trips without the crowds that camp right at the park gates. The property itself has these walking trails that wind through the oak groves, and I actually saw deer grazing near my cottage in the early morning. There’s decent parking right by each unit, which matters when you’re hauling hiking gear or groceries.
What Makes It Special
The real charm here is how the place manages to feel both secluded and accessible. You can sit on your private deck with morning coffee and hear absolutely nothing but birds, but you’re not so far out that you feel stranded. The owners clearly put thought into the details — good water pressure, reliable WiFi (surprisingly important when you’re trying to disconnect but still need to check in with reality), and those little touches like local maps and recommendations for hiking trails. It’s the kind of place where you actually use the outdoor furniture instead of just walking past it.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really get what this place offers — I can see why the feedback mentions it’s perfect for romantic getaways. There’s something about having your own little cottage surrounded by all this natural beauty that makes you want to slow down and actually talk to each other. The peace and quiet here isn’t just marketing speak; it’s the real deal. You’ll sleep better than you have in months, wake up to that incredible Sierra foothill light, and probably find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out. It’s not fancy in a flashy way, but it’s exactly what you need when you want to remember what relaxation actually feels like.

A perfect little cottage close to the park with beautiful views.

Very Beautiful with all the amenities you need for an enjoyable stay away from home. Unlike a hotel you are away from anyone else. Property is quiet and secluded. About an hour out of Yosemite (depending on drive and traffic) we were able to make it to the entrance in 40 minutes. Great location to also catch the sugar pine railroad steam train...

The Ranch House at Homestead Cottages was in a great spot to visit Yosemite Np
Tim
The cottage was as shown in the pictures and it was very nice to have a standalone structure with a full kitchen, bathroom, bed and living room, and patio in front.
The property is close enough to town to shop for supplies if needed, but remote enough to be very peaceful and relaxing.

We arrived quite late. After hour instructions were waiting for us at the agreed upon spot. Nevertheless, our hostess still came out to greet us and to make sure we got settled in.

Location is incredible, close to the town of Oakhurst (10min drive) with plenty of restaurants and grocery stores and roughly an hour and a half drive to Yosemite valley. However, it's still super quiet and you can enjoy some spectacular stargazing in the evening. The innkeepers are on the property and they are just the most helpful and kind...

We loved our cottage! It was absolutely adorable and clean and comfortable with every amenity of home! Loved the bed, so comfy we slept like babies. The location was a little off the beaten path which we loved! We felt truly immersed in the experience of the Cali countryside and it was so peaceful. The caretakers were awesome and so kind and...
