Discovery Parks – Moama West
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks Moama West, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away on Merool Lane. But you know what? Sometimes those unassuming spots end up being exactly what you need. The entrance is a bit tricky to find off Grimison Road (I actually drove past it twice), but once you’re in, there’s this immediate sense of space that you just don’t get at those cramped motels closer to town.
What really got me was how quiet it is out there, especially in the evenings when the kids have settled down and you can actually hear the birds. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything – the Murray River’s right there, and you can easily walk or bike into Moama proper when you want some action. The cabins themselves are… well, they’re honest about what they are. Clean, functional, with that slightly dated but charming feel that reminds you this isn’t trying to be some fancy resort. The kitchenettes actually work properly (I’ve stayed places where the stovetop was more decoration than appliance), and there’s decent storage space for families who tend to overpack.
The real charm happens during the day when you realize how well-positioned this place is for exploring the Murray. You’ve got easy access to the riverfront without dealing with the crowds that pack into Echuca during peak season, and honestly, the staff seems to genuinely know the area – not just the tourist brochure stuff, but where locals actually go for good coffee or which boat ramps are less chaotic on weekends. I spent a morning chatting with one of the maintenance guys who’d lived in the area his whole life, and he pointed me toward some walking tracks I never would have found otherwise. The pool area gets busy with families around 3 PM (fair warning if you’re looking for a quiet swim), but early mornings it’s perfect for a few laps before the day heats up. That 8.7 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s not flashy, but everything works the way it should, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t oversell itself. If you’re planning to actually spend time exploring rather than just lounging around your accommodation, this spot gives you a solid base without breaking the bank.

The park was amazing. It accommodated the family needs. It was close to our needs and even had a courtesy bus trip to the clubs

Great spot, feels like you are in the bush but only a couple minutes drive to shops. Walk to RSL for bite to eat. And the resort pool was fantastic! What could be improved: I parked in visitors car park instead of at our cabin as we were surrounded by big gum trees constantly dropping bark and sticks. Ours seemed to be the only cabin with close...
