You know what struck me first about Havana Villas? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – there’s something genuinely villa-like about the way these accommodations are tucked into Firth Street, not crammed together like so many coastal places do. I mean, Emu Point isn’t exactly Cuba, but the relaxed vibe definitely works. The 8.6 rating honestly feels about right; it’s one of those places that gets the important stuff right without trying to be fancy about it.

What really sold me on this place was how it sits in relation to everything else in Albany. Emu Point is where locals actually go to escape the busier parts of town – you’re literally a few minutes from some seriously good beaches, but you’re not dealing with the Middleton Beach crowds. The staff seemed to get this too; they’d casually mention which walking tracks were less busy in the mornings, or where to grab decent coffee without the tourist markup. Parking was straightforward (always a relief), and I appreciated that they didn’t make a big production out of check-in. The rooms themselves feel more spacious than you’d expect from a 3-star spot – not luxurious, but thoughtfully laid out with those little touches that show someone actually stayed in these units before deciding what worked.

Here’s the thing though – and this is why I’d recommend it to friends – the location gives you options. Want to do the full Albany tourist thing? The historic whaling station and those dramatic clifftop walks are totally doable day trips. But honestly, some of my best moments were just wandering around Emu Point itself, especially in the early evening when the light hits the water just right and you can hear families having barbecues nearby. It’s that kind of neighborhood where people actually live, not just visit. The only minor downside I noticed was that weekend mornings can get a bit lively with local families heading to the beach – but honestly, that’s part of what makes it feel authentic rather than like some sterile resort bubble. For what you pay, and considering you’re getting genuine local atmosphere plus easy access to Albany’s main attractions, Havana Villas delivers on its promise without overselling itself.
