Green Village Assisi

You know what, Green Village Assisi genuinely surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. This 4-star property sits just outside Assisi’s historic center, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. You’re close enough to walk into town (maybe 10-15 minutes to Piazza del Comune), but far enough away that you escape the tourist crowds and those endless tour groups that can make the old town feel a bit overwhelming during peak season.

The whole place has this relaxed, almost village-like atmosphere – hence the name, I guess. My room overlooked these rolling Umbrian hills, and I’ll tell you, watching the morning mist lift off the olive groves while having coffee on the little balcony was pretty magical. The rooms themselves are comfortable without being fancy – think modern furnishings with touches of local style, decent-sized bathrooms (the shower pressure was actually great), and air conditioning that actually works well during those hot summer months. The beds are proper firm, which I appreciated after all that walking around Assisi’s cobblestone streets. One tiny thing though – the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs just in case you get neighbors who chat late into the night.

What I really loved was the hotel restaurant – they serve this fantastic Umbrian cuisine that feels authentic rather than touristy. I mean, you’re getting proper local ingredients here, and the staff actually knows the region’s wines really well (try anything from Montefalco if they have it). Parking is included, which is honestly a godsend because finding a spot in Assisi proper can be a nightmare, especially during festival season or summer weekends. The pool area is lovely too – nothing fancy, but perfect for cooling off after a day exploring the Basilica di San Francesco or hiking up to Rocca Maggiore. There’s also a small spa area where you can unwind, though it’s more intimate than luxurious. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff speaks decent English and genuinely seems to enjoy helping guests figure out the best walking routes into town or suggesting lesser-known spots. They pointed me toward this tiny trattoria on Via Portica that I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole property feels well-maintained without being sterile – you know, like someone actually cares about the place rather than just running it as a business.
