5th Wheel Trailer
Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first heard about staying in a converted American 5th wheel trailer on a working farm near Bere Alston, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into. But honestly? This place completely blew me away, and I mean that in the best possible way.
The moment you pull up to Tamar Valley Farm (and yes, you’ll definitely want a car for this – it’s about a 10-minute drive from Bere Alston village), you realize this isn’t your typical accommodation. The trailer sits in this gorgeous spot overlooking the Tamar Valley, and I actually spent my first evening just standing outside taking in the view. The owners have done something really special here – they’ve taken what could have been a quirky gimmick and turned it into something genuinely comfortable and thoughtful. Inside, the space is surprisingly roomy and cleverly designed, with everything you need without feeling cramped. The bed is actually really comfortable (I was worried it might be one of those situations where charm trumps practicality, but not here), and there’s proper heating for those chilly Devon evenings.
What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night – you know that proper countryside quiet where you can actually hear the wind in the trees? During the day, you might catch glimpses of the farm animals going about their business, which honestly never got old. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to hospitality too; they’re around if you need anything but not hovering, if you know what I mean. Parking is right there next to the trailer, which is handy when you’re lugging bags or groceries (there’s a little kitchenette setup that’s perfect for simple meals). I’d say the only minor thing is that you’re definitely in proper countryside here – so if you’re someone who needs to be within walking distance of shops or restaurants, this might feel a bit remote. But for me, that isolation was exactly the point. You’re close enough to explore places like Calstock or even pop over to Dartmoor for the day, but far enough away that you feel like you’ve actually escaped. The whole experience has this wonderful balance of adventure and comfort that’s pretty hard to find. I kept thinking how my friends back home would react to hearing I stayed in a trailer on a farm – but then they’d see the photos and that 9.4 rating makes perfect sense.

We had a wonderful stay in the trailer, very spacious and comfortable. A lovely touch to have milk and cereals provided for the morning! The views are breathtaking, it's worth taking binoculars for. The hosts are very friendly and made my childrens stay by allowing them to interact with the adorable animals they keep. A perfect mini-break. We hope...
