Discovery Parks – Perth Airport
Discovery Parks – Perth Airport Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Discovery Parks Perth Airport, I figured it was just another generic airport hotel trying to squeeze every dollar out of tired travelers. But you know what? I was completely wrong. This place on Hale Road actually gets it right, and I mean really right. It’s about a 10-minute drive from the terminals (which is perfect because you’re close enough to catch early flights but far enough that you won’t hear planes all night), and the whole setup feels more like a proper resort than your typical crash-pad-before-flying situation.
The thing that struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to create this little oasis that doesn’t feel rushed or corporate. The cabins – and yeah, they’re actual cabins, not just hotel rooms with fancy names – are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbor’s TV through paper-thin walls. I stayed in one of their family units during Perth’s crazy hot February, and honestly, the air conditioning was a godsend. The kitchen was properly equipped too, which matters when you’ve got kids who refuse to eat anything that isn’t exactly what they want (parents, you know what I’m talking about). There’s something satisfying about being able to grab groceries from the Coles up on Great Eastern Highway and actually cook a decent meal instead of surviving on overpriced airport food.
What really won me over though was the pool area – it’s this sprawling complex with slides that kept my kids busy for hours, plus a proper lap pool for when you want to actually swim instead of just splash around. The staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure everything worked smoothly, from check-in (which took maybe three minutes) to helping sort out a late checkout when our flight got delayed. I mean, that 8.7 rating isn’t just random numbers – you can feel it in the details. The playground equipment is well-maintained, the barbecue areas are actually clean, and there’s decent WiFi throughout (crucial when you’re trying to check in for flights or keep kids entertained with tablets). The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re planning to walk anywhere, well… don’t. This part of Perth is very much car territory, but honestly, that’s not really their fault. For what it is – a genuine family-friendly spot that happens to be brilliantly located for airport access – Discovery Parks nails it. I’ve stayed at plenty of airport hotels that cost twice as much and delivered half the experience.
