Discovery Parks – Maidens Inn Moama
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks Maidens Inn on Deniliquin Street – honestly, the name made it sound like some generic chain place. But this spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s right there in the heart of Moama, which means you’re basically walking distance to the Murray River and all those paddle steamer operations that tourists love (though locals will tell you the real action is just downstream where the fishing’s better). The building itself has this sort of heritage charm that they’ve clearly put effort into maintaining – not the fake rustic stuff you see everywhere, but genuine character that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history.
What really won me over was how they’ve managed to blend that old-world Maidens Inn vibe with modern comfort. The rooms are properly spacious – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without doing gymnastics around the bed. And the air conditioning works like a dream, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with those brutal Murray River Valley summers. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the tourist brochure version. When I asked about good spots for an early morning walk, the guy at reception immediately mentioned the river track that starts just behind the RSL – that’s local knowledge right there. The whole place runs smoothly without feeling stuffy or over-managed, if that makes sense.
Here’s the thing though – and this is why I’d actually recommend it to friends – it sits in this perfect sweet spot between the fancy resorts that charge you a fortune for everything and those budget motels that make you question your life choices. You’re a five-minute stroll from Rich River Golf Club (which, let’s be honest, half the reason people come to Moama), and even closer to the main strip with all the clubs and restaurants. But you’re just far enough off the main drag that you don’t get the noise from late-night revelers stumbling between venues. Parking’s easy and free, which might sound basic but you’ll appreciate it when you see what some places around here charge. The 8.5 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for. Whether you’re here for a golf weekend, a river holiday, or just passing through on your way to somewhere else, this place gets the fundamentals right while adding those little touches that make you want to come back.

Kids loved the facilities such as the two pools and the splash park. Also the jumping pillow. Us adults loved the knowledge that the kids were going to be happy, safe and have something to do everyday. Had a lovely view of the River. Also having breakfast with a couple of wild kookaburras sitting on our railings was a great bonus. The staff were...

On arrival we were offered a free room upgrade, our room was elevated with a beautiful view of the river. The room was clean and well maintained. We asked for late checkout and didn’t have to leave until 12pm. The price was affordable compared to other accommodation in the area. We were extremely happy with our weekend away for a wedding and will...
