24 The Beeches Caravan Park
First Impressions
Honestly, 24 The Beeches Caravan Park isn’t what you’d expect from a typical holiday park. Tucked away in the quiet village of Gilcrux, this four-star spot feels more like staying on someone’s well-maintained country estate than a commercial site. The moment you pull up, there’s this immediate sense of calm — probably because you’re surrounded by actual countryside rather than rows of identical caravans. The fact that parking is completely free and right on-site is honestly a relief, especially when you’ve been driving through the winding Cumbrian lanes to get here.
Location & Setting
What really struck me about this place is how couples seem to gravitate toward it — and I can see why. Gilcrux sits in that sweet spot where you’re genuinely in the countryside but not completely cut off from civilization. You know what I mean? It’s the kind of location where you can take long walks without seeing another soul, yet you’re still within reasonable reach of the Lake District if you want a proper day out. The village itself is tiny, which actually works in the park’s favor because there’s no traffic noise or tourist crowds to deal with.
The Accommodation
The caravans here are well-maintained and surprisingly spacious — I mean, you’re not going to feel cramped even if you’re staying for a week. Each unit comes with a decent kitchen setup, which is actually pretty important when you’re this far from restaurants and takeaways. The interiors feel fresh rather than that slightly musty smell you sometimes get in holiday caravans, and there’s proper heating for those unpredictable Cumbrian evenings. What I appreciated most was how quiet everything stays, even when the park is busy.
The Experience
This isn’t a place where you’ll find entertainment teams or kids’ clubs — and that’s exactly the point. The peace here is genuine, not manufactured. Mornings are particularly lovely when you can sit outside with your coffee and actually hear birdsong instead of traffic. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking, and if you’re into cycling, the quiet lanes around Gilcrux are ideal for exploring without worrying about heavy traffic. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and after spending time here, I completely understand why.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something refreshing about a place that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else. 24 The Beeches delivers on the promise of a proper countryside retreat without any pretensions. The combination of excellent guest ratings and that consistently high location score tells you everything you need to know — people come here, unwind properly, and leave feeling like they’ve had a real break. It’s particularly perfect for couples who want to escape the noise and actually spend time together, whether that’s exploring the local area or simply enjoying the kind of quiet you can’t find in most holiday destinations.
The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

Home away from home. Had everything you need, towels, bedding, toiletries, washing up liquid and decaf tea bags(perfect). The park right outside which my 4yr old loved. Older boys were able to access the WIFI. Main bed was super comfy. I love all the personal touches.
