Discovery Parks – Fraser Street, Hervey Bay

Discovery Parks – Fraser Street, Hervey Bay Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks on Fraser Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the location. Torquay isn’t exactly the flashy part of Hervey Bay that everyone talks about, but you know what? That actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. You’re tucked away from the tourist chaos but still close enough to everything that matters – it’s maybe a five-minute drive to the Urangan Marina where all the Fraser Island day trips depart from, and honestly, the lack of foot traffic around Fraser Street meant I could actually find parking without circling the block like a vulture.
The park itself has this sort of comfortable, lived-in feel that I really appreciated. It’s definitely earning that 4-star rating – the facilities are clean and well-maintained without being overly polished or sterile. The cabins have that proper holiday park vibe (think solid but not fancy), and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s something refreshing about a place that knows exactly what it is. The pool area gets decent afternoon sun, which is perfect timing since you’ll probably spend your mornings out on whale watching tours or exploring Fraser anyway. I noticed families tend to congregate there around 3 PM when the kids are getting restless – fair warning if you’re looking for quiet pool time. The camp kitchen was actually better equipped than I expected, though it does get a bit crowded during dinner prep if you’re there in peak whale season (July through November, basically).
What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I mentioned wanting to hit some of the less touristy beaches, the woman at reception immediately started talking about the walking tracks near Torquay Beach – not the main Hervey Bay esplanade that every brochure mentions, but the actual local spots where you might see more than just other tourists. The 8.7 rating makes complete sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be some resort experience – it’s just a really solid base camp for exploring the region. The Wi-Fi worked reliably (crucial for uploading all those whale photos), the hot water was consistent, and honestly, after a full day of bumping around Fraser Island in a 4WD, you don’t need marble countertops. You need a comfortable bed and maybe a decent shower, which this place delivers without any fuss. Plus, being slightly inland means you’re not paying the premium of those absolute waterfront spots, but the trade-off is totally worth it when you’re saving money for the actual experiences you came here for.

We booked a deluxe safari tent. It was just the best. All you can wish for on a holiday is available in the tent. Great bed, bunk bed for the kids. Nice bathroom. But what relly has to be mentioned is the cleaniness. Absolutely the best I have ever seen in a holiday accommodation.

We seem to have been upgraded to a bigger and better cabin. We appreciated that very much and thoroughly enjoyed being there. What could be improved: Everything was fine. One of the swimming pools was out of action but that didn't affect our stay. Also, the gas had been turned off one afternoon but nobody told us. A phone call from us quickly...

The cabin was very comfortable, the staff were lovely and helpful and the location was excellent with everything so close by, including the beach. Park and staff were outstanding unfortunately there was a flood and had to evacuate,
Amanda and her husband did everything humanly possible to assist but sometimes nature wins.
I will return to this park as i rate it A1.
Thank you to all the staff.

Location was amazing close to literally everything you could need and want the room was spotless and bed was comfortable.
