Discovery Parks – Carnarvon
Discovery Parks – Carnarvon Overview
You know, I wasn’t expecting much when I pulled up to Discovery Parks on Robinson Street – I mean, it’s Carnarvon, not exactly the Gold Coast, right? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way. The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. You’re close enough to walk into town for a coffee or hit up the IGA for supplies, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with road trains rumbling past at 5 AM (trust me, that matters when you’re trying to sleep off a long drive from Perth).
The grounds have this laid-back, almost retro holiday park vibe that I actually love – reminds me of family trips when I was a kid, but with way better facilities. The cabins are clean and functional, nothing fancy but they’ve got everything you need including decent air conditioning, which is non-negotiable in Carnarvon during summer. I stayed in one of their newer units and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was, even with families around. The park’s big enough that you’re not listening to your neighbor’s TV through paper-thin walls. What really won me over was the attention to small details – like having a proper clothesline (you’ll appreciate this after a dusty day exploring the gorges), decent water pressure in the shower, and kitchen facilities that don’t make you want to eat takeaway every night.
The pool area is where this place really shines, especially if you’re traveling with kids or just want to cool off after exploring places like the Blowholes or driving out to the lighthouse. It’s not huge, but it’s well-maintained and actually gets sun most of the day. The BBQ areas are solid too – they’ve got that communal holiday park feel where you end up chatting with other travelers about road conditions or where to see the best wildflowers. Staff here seem to genuinely know the area, which is refreshing. When I asked about tide times for fishing, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he told me exactly where the locals go and what bait works best. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re somewhere like Carnarvon, where the difference between a good day and a great day often comes down to timing and knowing the right spots. Sure, it’s not a five-star resort, but for a base to explore the Gascoyne region, it hits that sweet spot of comfortable, affordable, and genuinely helpful. Plus, the 8.3 rating makes sense once you’re here – it does exactly what it promises without any pretense.

Beautifully clean, really comfy, gorgeous sunset from balcony. Great stop off up/down coral coast. Fab local growers honesty shop on site. The fish & chip can was brilliant!
What could be improved: Liked everything, located a little out of town which we were aware of when booked. Barbecue facilities needed a bit of tlc.
