Camping Village Lago Maggiore
Camping Village Lago Maggiore Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled into Camping Village Lago Maggiore, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what I thought would be a basic campground. But this four-star property in Dormelletto completely changed my perspective on what camping can be. The moment you drive down Via Salvador Dalì, you’re greeted by manicured grounds that feel more like a resort than a traditional camping village — and the glimpses of Lago Maggiore shimmering through the trees? Well, that’s when you know you’ve found something special.
The Setting
The location here is genuinely outstanding, and I can see why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways. You’re positioned right on the shores of Italy’s second-largest lake, with the Swiss Alps creating this dramatic backdrop that changes throughout the day. What I love about Dormelletto is that it’s far enough from the tourist crowds of Stresa or Verbania, but you can still reach those spots easily if you want to explore. The parking situation is actually refreshing — having your own guaranteed spot on-site means one less thing to worry about, especially during peak season when lakeside parking becomes a nightmare elsewhere.
Accommodation Options
The variety of stays here surprised me — you’ve got everything from traditional camping pitches to fully equipped mobile homes that feel like proper vacation rentals. I stayed in one of their larger units, and the kitchen was surprisingly well-appointed with everything you’d need to prepare meals using fresh ingredients from the local markets. The room layouts are thoughtfully designed, maximizing space without feeling cramped, and most importantly, many units offer those coveted lake views that make morning coffee feel like a ritual.
Facilities and Activities
What sets this place apart from typical camping experiences is the attention to amenities — there’s a proper restaurant on-site that serves decent Italian fare, though I’d recommend venturing into Dormelletto village for dinner at least once. The property has direct lake access, which means you can literally walk from your accommodation to the water in minutes. I spent hours just sitting by the shore, watching the ferries glide between the Italian and Swiss sides of the lake. The swimming area is well-maintained, and if you’re into water sports, the staff can point you toward rental options nearby.
Why Guests Love It
After spending several days here, I understand why this place consistently earns high ratings from visitors. It strikes that perfect balance between having the freedom and affordability of camping while offering the comfort and services you’d expect from a quality hotel. The staff genuinely cares about your experience — they’re quick with local recommendations and always seem to know the best times to catch the sunset over the lake. For couples especially, there’s something magical about having Lago Maggiore as your backyard, whether you’re planning romantic evening strolls or early morning swims before the day-trippers arrive.
Experience exceptional vacation village resorts that feature spacious villas, recreational facilities, and personalized services designed to create memorable family holidays and romantic getaways.

We loved having everything we needed within walking distance. There was really no need to leave the property and traveling with three kids, that is a major plus. My children loved the nightly disco and the pool.

The deluxe bungalow with Garden View was an excellent choice for us: everything was very functional and practical. The rooms were not that big, but that's expected in a bungalow.

The location is stunning. Right on the lake. With access to the beach. The rented units (we stayed in a superior cottage) are well equipped and have enough room for a young family of 4. The camping has play area for kids, a restaurant, bar, bathing facilities, etc. Supermarket is right in front and a lot of eateries around. Stresa is 45 min drive...

Well organized area. Facinating nature. Clean and nice villa. Helpful and very kind staff. Facilities like playgrounds, garbage rooms, toilets, parking lots ping-pong tables, and the restaurant were impressive. You feel yourself like in the home. Had a excellent few days here and it was perfect for what we wanted. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and really set a positive tone to start your stay.
