BIG4 Bays Holiday Park

BIG4 Bays Holiday Park Overview
Look, when I first pulled into BIG4 Bays Holiday Park on Port Stephens Drive, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from a holiday park. But this place actually surprised me. It’s got that relaxed Australian coastal vibe without trying too hard, you know? The kind of spot where families have been coming back for years, and you can tell because the staff genuinely remember people’s names and ask about the kids from last visit.
What really works here is the location – you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Birubi Beach, which means you can hear the ocean if you listen for it, but you’re not dealing with that constant sandy wind that beachfront places get. The park itself is well-maintained (I mean, it’s a 4-star BIG4, so they have standards to keep up), and honestly, the amenities are pretty solid. The pool area gets busy around 3 PM when families come back from the beach, but mornings are perfect if you want to actually swim laps instead of dodging kids on floaties. They’ve got this decent camp kitchen setup too – nothing fancy, but the BBQ grills are clean and there’s always hot water, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed.
Here’s what I really appreciated though: Port Stephens Drive can get a bit hectic during school holidays (especially around the Stockton Bight sand dunes entrance), but the park sits back far enough that you’re not hearing traffic all night. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly cheerful resort nonsense, just practical people who know the area. The woman at reception actually gave me better directions to the dolphin watching spots than the tourist brochures did. And parking? Well, it’s Australia, so obviously there’s plenty of space, but they’ve thought about where to put the bigger rigs so everyone’s not trying to maneuver around each other. The Wi-Fi works fine near the main facilities, gets a bit patchy in the back sections, but honestly, you’re in Anna Bay – go look at some dolphins instead of scrolling Instagram. With a 7.7 rating, it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it absolutely nails what a good holiday park should be: clean, friendly, and positioned so you can actually enjoy why you came to Port Stephens in the first place.

It’s a safe environment for kids to run free. There are staff patrolling making sure things are in order.
What could be improved: Our cabin had too “little” cooking pots. I think in my experience this is less than average. If I had known I would have bought my full camping items
Dennis from Australia (March 24, 2025)
The location is very accessible to all the tourist attractions.
The cabins are clean and tidy.
The staff are very friendly and professional.
What could be improved: Swimming pool access is only up to 10 pm.
The price is a bit high, but I understand it is a tourist destination.

A warm friendly welcome and a lovely little stay for 3 nights in a cabin. Clean and excellent facilities. Lots for the kids to do as well. The jumping pillow and the pool were lots of fun (for big kids too!) What could be improved: Perhaps some blackout curtains would help stop kids waking up super early but other than that nothing negative at...
