Beechworth Lake Sambell Caravan Park
You know what? I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Beechworth Lake Sambell Caravan Park on Peach Drive, I wasn’t expecting much. Three stars, caravan park… I mean, you set your expectations accordingly, right? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. The setting is actually gorgeous – you’re literally right on the edge of Lake Sambell, and if you snag one of the lakefront spots (book early, trust me), you’ll wake up to that mirror-still water reflecting the morning light. There’s something pretty magical about having your coffee while watching the mist lift off the lake, especially in autumn when the whole area turns into this postcard-perfect scene.
What really won me over was how genuine everything felt here. The owners clearly care about the place – it’s not fancy, but it’s clean and well-maintained in that unpretentious way that actually matters more than marble lobbies. The amenities are solid for what you’re paying – decent bathrooms, reliable hot water (always a relief at caravan parks), and the camp kitchen is spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows with other guests when you’re trying to cook dinner. I actually ended up chatting with this couple from Melbourne who’d been coming here for years, and they told me the secret is getting one of the sites closer to the boat ramp if you’re into fishing – apparently the early morning action is fantastic. The whole setup works really well for families too; I watched kids safely riding bikes around the internal roads while parents relaxed knowing they weren’t going anywhere dangerous.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore historic Beechworth without paying tourist-trap accommodation prices. You’re maybe a five-minute drive from the main street with all those gorgeous Victorian buildings and excellent cafes (seriously, don’t skip Beechworth Bakery). What I loved was coming back to the park in the evenings – it gets properly quiet once the day visitors leave the lake area, just the sound of water lapping and maybe some kookaburras having their evening laugh. Sure, it’s not luxury – you’re in a caravan park, after all – but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. No pretense, no inflated prices, just a genuinely nice spot where you can actually relax. That 8.8 rating makes complete sense to me; it delivers exactly what it promises and then a bit more. If you’re road-tripping through northeast Victoria or just want a peaceful base for exploring one of Australia’s prettiest historic towns, this place hits the sweet spot between budget-friendly and actually enjoyable.

A lovely friendly place to stay, and reasonably quiet as well. Plus it was perfect for me with a 6 month old pup. It was perfect for what I needed.

Great set up, everything was good quality. Very impressed with the blinds in the room so that it was actually dark at night inside with no external lights visible. Lovely hosts, very helpful with dinner recommendations.

In the middle of summer with a toddler we still would have like a small pool, even though the lake is so close
