Beamish Holiday Park
First Impressions
When I first pulled into Beamish Holiday Park, I’ll be honest — the name had me expecting something a bit more basic than what I found. This four-star holiday park sits right in the heart of County Durham’s countryside, and there’s something genuinely peaceful about the setting that hits you immediately. The fact that parking is completely free and right on-site might seem like a small thing, but when you’re hauling luggage and supplies for a proper getaway, it actually makes a real difference. The welcoming atmosphere starts from the moment you arrive, with helpful staff ready to assist with check-in and any questions about the facilities.
Location & Surroundings
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally a stone’s throw from the famous Beamish Museum — I mean, it’s right there. But beyond that obvious draw, Stanley and the surrounding Durham countryside offer this lovely mix of rolling hills and proper English village charm that you don’t always find at holiday parks. Couples seem to absolutely love it here (they rate the location 9.0, which honestly doesn’t surprise me), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about those evening walks through the nearby woodland paths. The proximity to natural attractions makes it an ideal base for exploring the region.
The Accommodation Experience
The holiday homes and caravans here are well-maintained, and each room feels thoughtfully arranged rather than just functional. What struck me most was how quiet everything stays, even when the park’s reasonably busy. The units come with proper kitchenette setups, which is perfect when you want to make a cup of tea without trekking to a communal area, or when you’ve picked up some local produce and want to cook something simple. Every detail has been considered to enhance your comfort during your stay.
Facilities & Atmosphere
The park doesn’t try to be flashy — instead, it focuses on getting the basics absolutely right. There’s a decent on-site restaurant that serves proper comfort food (their Sunday roast is actually quite good), and the staff genuinely seem to care about making sure you’re settled in properly. The communal areas have this relaxed, family-friendly vibe without being chaotic, and honestly, the whole place feels more like a well-run village than a typical holiday park. The attention to detail in maintaining grounds and facilities is evident throughout.
Why Guests Love It
Recent guests consistently rate this place 9.2 for location, and after spending time here, I completely understand why. It’s that rare combination of being close enough to attractions like Beamish Museum and the broader North East region, while still feeling properly tucked away from the usual tourist hustle. The value is solid too — you’re getting four-star comfort and service without the premium pricing you’d find closer to Newcastle or Durham city center. Plus, there’s something to be said for waking up to actual countryside views rather than a car park or busy road. This holiday park truly offers the perfect escape.
The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

Perfect location to visit the Beamish Museum site just down the road

Staff were very nice and helpful. Caravan was clean and warm when we arrived on a cold day. Plenty of space for two of us staying. Nice location. We liked the faux fireplace, and the caravan was nice and warm, mostly.

If you want self-catering just down the road from Beamish - this is great as we took 2 days to visit all of Beamish - but I would not suggest walking it, as quite a hill and further than expected- but can be done.
The mobile home was lovely and warm with plenty of hot water and good TV reception.

Didn't have breakfast and the location was in a nice tranquil area and easy to get to. Site was easy to move around and looked clean and the play area kept the kids entertained.
