Discovery Parks – Coolwaters, Yeppoon

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks Coolwaters – I mean, it’s right on the Scenic Highway which sounds lovely but can sometimes mean traffic noise, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The moment you drive in, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about the layout here. Instead of cramming everything together like so many holiday parks do, they’ve given each accommodation some breathing room, and you can actually hear the waves from the beachfront spots.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep that relaxed Yeppoon vibe while still feeling polished – it’s sort of like staying at your friend’s beach house if your friend happened to have really good taste and a maintenance crew. The pools are genuinely nice (not just functional), and I loved that there are quiet corners where you can actually read a book without kids doing cannonballs three feet away. Speaking of kids though, they’ve nailed the family setup – there’s enough space for everyone to spread out, which honestly saves marriages on family holidays. The beach access is the real winner here. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Kinka Beach, and while it’s not the most famous stretch of the Capricorn Coast, it’s actually better for families than some of the busier spots near town. Less crowded, same gorgeous water.

The staff seem to actually live in the area – they’ll tell you about the good fish and chips place that’s not obvious from the highway, or mention when the stingers are around (because let’s be real, that matters up here). I appreciated that they didn’t oversell things or try to convince me their onsite restaurant was fine dining – it’s decent pub food, perfectly fine after a day at the beach, but they’ll also point you toward better options in Yeppoon proper if you’re feeling fancy. Location-wise, you’re close enough to everything that matters – Yeppoon’s main beach and shopping is maybe ten minutes down the road, but you’re far enough out that you get actual peace and quiet at night. The highway noise is honestly minimal once you’re settled in your accommodation, and the sound of the ocean kind of takes over anyway. If you’re the type who needs to be in the thick of everything, this might feel a bit remote, but if you want that proper coastal holiday feeling without completely roughing it, this hits the sweet spot pretty perfectly.
