Avalon Resort
You know what struck me first about Avalon Resort? It’s tucked away on Kerikeri Road in this spot where you can actually hear the tui birds in the morning – not something you’d expect from a 4.5-star place, but honestly, it makes all the difference. I mean, you’re only about ten minutes from the Stone Store and those charming cafes in town, but the property feels like you’ve found this secret corner of Northland that most tourists rush right past.
The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully done – not flashy, but everything just works. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m talking fall-asleep-in-five-minutes comfortable), and they’ve got these windows that actually open, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places seal you in with recycled air. What really got me though was how quiet it stays, even during the busy summer months when Kerikeri’s crawling with visitors heading to the Bay of Islands. There’s something about the way they’ve positioned the buildings that keeps road noise to a minimum, and the parking situation is refreshingly straightforward – no hunting around for spots or paying extra fees.
The staff genuinely know their stuff about the area, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to figure out whether to hit the Rainbow Falls or save time for the weekend markets. They pointed me toward this little walking track I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, some of the best travel moments come from those kinds of insider tips. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that matches perfectly with Kerikeri’s pace – not sleepy exactly, but not trying to impress you every five minutes either. You can grab a decent coffee in the morning without getting dressed up, and the pool area actually gets afternoon sun, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case around here. With a 9.2 rating, you’d expect things to be spot-on, and they really are – just in ways that feel natural rather than over-engineered.
Each resort village provides a unique blend of privacy and community, where guests enjoy villa-style accommodations while having access to shared amenities and social experiences.

We had a fantastic experience staying here, so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cabin room & amenities. The natural surroundings of the pond, including the birds are truly remarkable, so peaceful where one can truly appreciate the beauty, and tranquillity. We enjoy relaxing in the spa pool was heavenly! We want to express our appreciation...

Brad the host graciously took his time to show me the property, get the TV working for me and when I left picked me a bag of oranges, lemons and limes from his orchard, which I was thrilled about. The bird life and geese, ducks and chickens around the pond were enchanting.

The setting and quietness of the property was lovely. The room was well laid out, clean and had everything I needed. Bed was super comfy. The birdsong in the morning was a delight to wake up to. I walked into town for dinner, which only took a few minutes, but wish I'd brought a take-away so I could sit on the deck and enjoy the surrounds. What...
