At Remingtons Private Cottages Montville Overview

You know what struck me first about At Remingtons? The drive up Balmoral Road itself – it’s this winding stretch through proper hinterland country where you can actually feel the air getting cooler as you climb. I mean, Montville’s always been one of those places that locals from the Coast escape to when Brisbane gets too muggy, but these cottages sit just far enough from the main village buzz that you get the peace without missing out on anything important. The moment you pull through their gates, there’s this immediate sense of… well, privacy, I guess. It’s not some massive resort where you’re dodging other guests in hallways – each cottage feels genuinely secluded, tucked between established gardens that someone clearly spent years getting right.

The cottages themselves are honestly better than the photos suggest, which doesn’t happen often these days. They’ve got that Queensland country style down pat – wide verandas, timber details that don’t feel fake, and those little touches like proper coffee machines (not the pod nonsense) and fireplaces that you’ll actually want to use come winter evenings. What I really appreciated was the attention to soundproofing – you can hear the forest sounds at night, but not your neighbors, which is saying something given how close some of the cottages sit to each other. The bathrooms are particularly well done, spa-style setups that make you want to actually take baths instead of quick showers. And honestly, the beds are spot-on – firm enough that you don’t sink into oblivion, but soft enough that you’re not counting ceiling boards at 3am.

Here’s the thing about location that the booking sites don’t really capture – you’re literally five minutes from Montville’s main street (which gets packed on weekends, fair warning), but it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. The Kondalilla Falls track is practically around the corner, and if you’re into that sort of thing, the Blackall Range tourist drive starts basically at your doorstep. I’d actually recommend visiting midweek if you can swing it – weekends see a lot of day-trippers from Brisbane and the Coast, but Tuesday through Thursday? You’ve got the place mostly to yourselves. The only minor gripe I had was the WiFi can be a bit patchy during busy periods, but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on what you’re after. The staff genuinely seem to know the area well too – not just the obvious tourist spots, but the better walking tracks and which restaurants in town are worth your time versus the tourist traps. With that 9.4 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after spending a few nights there, I can see why people keep coming back.

Cabins were really nicely furnished and felt very homely

What could be improved: A little bit of road noise in peak times but not really too bad

The breakfast platter was amazing, and the champagne on arrival really gives it a 5star touch.

What could be improved: The wi fi couldn't get it to work, and the dvd player didn't work .The email had a number to contact, so I texted the number but had no reply back .
