Altin Yunus Hotel & SPA – Çeşme

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Altin Yunus – it’s one of those places that looks absolutely stunning from the outside, perched right there on Kalem Burnu with the Aegean practically lapping at its doorstep, but once you’re inside, you realize it’s showing its age a bit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a solid five-star experience, but you know how some hotels feel like they peaked about ten years ago? That’s kind of the vibe here, though honestly, the location more than makes up for it.

The thing about staying here is you’re literally on one of the best stretches of coastline in Çeşme – I mean, you walk out and you’ve got that gorgeous bay view that changes color about six times throughout the day. The spa is actually where this place shines (and probably why they keep the “SPA” in big letters in the name). They do this Turkish bath experience that’s genuinely authentic, not some watered-down tourist version, and the massage therapists actually know what they’re doing. The pools are decent too, though they get pretty crowded during peak summer months when half of Istanbul seems to descend on Çeşme. If you’re visiting in July or August, honestly, get to the pool area early or you’ll be hunting for a decent spot.

What I really appreciate about Altin Yunus is how it feels removed from the main Çeşme chaos – you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds that mob the town center, but you’re still close enough that a quick dolmuş ride gets you to Alaçatı for dinner or shopping. The hotel restaurant is… well, it’s fine, typical resort fare, but you’d be crazy not to venture out for meals. There’s this little fish place about fifteen minutes down the coast road that locals actually go to – way better than anything you’ll get at the hotel buffet. The staff here speaks decent English and they’re genuinely helpful, especially the concierge who seems to know every taxi driver in town. Check-in can be a bit slow during peak times, but once you’re settled, the service is pretty attentive. The rooms themselves are spacious enough, though some of the furnishings feel a bit dated – think early 2010s luxury rather than cutting-edge modern. But honestly, you’re not coming here to sit in your room anyway. The real draw is waking up to that incredible water view and having direct access to a really lovely stretch of beach without having to fight for space or deal with vendors constantly trying to sell you stuff.
