Alstonville Country Cottages
You know what caught me off guard about Alstonville Country Cottages? The peace and quiet – I mean, sure, it’s literally on Cemetery Road (which sounds way more ominous than it actually is), but honestly, that just means you’re tucked away from all the tourist chaos that hits the main drags around Byron Bay. The cottages themselves are nothing fancy – we’re talking proper 3-star territory here – but there’s something really genuine about the whole setup that had me sleeping better than I have in months. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing because everything just… works. Hot water pressure’s decent, the beds don’t creak when you roll over, and there’s this lovely morning quiet where all you hear are the local birds having their daily gossip session.
What really sold me on this place is how it sits in relation to everything else you’d actually want to do around here. You’re maybe ten minutes from the Alstonville Plateau, which honestly has some of the best views of the coast without the crowds – locals seem to keep that one to themselves. The whole area’s got this rolling green thing going on that’s pretty spectacular if you’re coming from the city, and the cottage windows frame it perfectly. I spent way too much time just sitting on the little porch with my coffee, watching the morning mist do its thing across the fields. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that over-the-top hospitality theater you get at some places, just genuine helpfulness when you need it. Parking’s right there (small blessing, but you know how it is when you’re dragging luggage), and the Wi-Fi actually reaches the bedroom, which… look, I wasn’t supposed to be working, but these things matter.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t where you go if you want to stumble out your door into restaurants and nightlife. Alstonville’s got a few decent spots for dinner, but you’re really using this as your base camp for exploring the Northern Rivers properly. Twenty minutes gets you to Ballina’s beaches, half an hour to Byron if you must, but honestly, the sweet spot is all the smaller coastal towns and hinterland drives that most people rush past. The cottage gave me that perfect end-of-day retreat feeling – you know, when you’ve been out exploring all day and you just want somewhere comfortable and quiet to decompress. That 9.0 rating makes total sense once you realize what they’re actually going for here. It’s not trying to be luxury, it’s just trying to be really, really good at being a peaceful country cottage, and frankly, they’ve nailed it.

Stayed just one night, with 3 teenagers; travelling for a swim meet. The cottage was lovely; very clean, beds & pillows were insanely comfortable! Fully equipped kitchen. In a very tranquil & quiet setting. BBQ out on the verandah. The kids swum in the pool & took a walk to feed the goats and donkey. WiFi was good. Aiir-con was good too plus...

Our Alstonville holiday was great! Everything went so smoothly from the time we booked till the time we arrived home. I would definitely recommend Alstonville Country cottages to anyone. We went to some amazing places with great variety of sights available. This is a dog friendly place and our fur baby loved the freedom to explore.

Being surrounded by bush, but able to see the sky and the distant ocean, privacy, quiet and the covered verandah with a comfy table where we could eat outside.

Some hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes on, perhaps another towel to take to the pool would have been helpful.

Quiet location with lots of space to walk and relax. There is a beautiful walking trail that I took my dog for walk each day we were there. The unit is spacious with beautiful view , a home away from home. We check in late, Aria had the unit cool and lights were on to welcome us. It was a wonderful welcoming gesture after a long and tiring trip. ...

The staff were very helpful. We had to suddenly move house around the time of our original booking date, and Aria was extremely gracious in allowing us to move our booking to another weekend without extra charge. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. The pool is great. Very peaceful location and vibe. The kitchen was also handy - families...
