I wasn’t expecting much when I first rolled up to Allhallows Getaway – honestly, Allhallows-on-Sea isn’t exactly on everyone’s radar, tucked away on this quiet stretch of Kent coast that most people drive past on their way to somewhere else. But that’s actually what makes this place pretty special. The hotel sits right where you can feel the Thames Estuary doing its thing, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup that immediately puts you at ease.

The owners have clearly put thought into making this feel like a proper boutique experience without all the stuffy formality you get at those chain places. I mean, they don’t bother with official star ratings because, well, they’re doing their own thing entirely. The rooms have this lived-in comfort – not showroom perfect, but genuinely cozy in a way that makes you want to kick off your shoes and actually relax. What really got me was how quiet it gets at night; you’re close enough to hear the water but far enough from the main A228 that traffic isn’t an issue. Parking’s straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Kent’s coastal villages will appreciate.

Here’s the thing about this part of Kent – it’s properly off the beaten path, so you’re not fighting crowds for a decent pub meal or a walk along the shoreline. The Hundred of Hoo peninsula has this end-of-the-world feel that’s either going to be exactly what you need or completely wrong for you, no middle ground. But if you’re looking to disconnect without actually going to the middle of nowhere, this hits the sweet spot. The staff seem to genuinely know the area – they’ll point you toward the good walking routes along the seawall or tell you which pub actually does decent fish and chips (crucial information, obviously).
