Alivio Tourist Park Canberra
You know what surprised me most about Alivio Tourist Park? It’s actually not your typical cramped caravan park experience – this place has figured out how to do budget-friendly accommodation without making you feel like you’re roughing it. Located on Kunzea Street in O’Connor, it’s tucked away in this quiet residential area that honestly feels more like staying in a proper neighborhood than some tourist zone.
The first thing you’ll notice when you pull up is how much space everything has. I mean, the sites aren’t crammed together like sardines, and there’s actual grass between the cabins and powered sites. The facilities block is probably the cleanest I’ve encountered at any tourist park – they’ve clearly invested in keeping things up to standard, which you don’t always get at this price point. What I really appreciated was the kitchen area; it’s got proper bench space and decent equipment, not those sad little hotplates you sometimes find. The laundry facilities work well too, though you’ll want to grab a spot early if you’re there during school holidays when families descend on Canberra.
Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute drive from the city center, but here’s the thing – you’re actually closer to some of Canberra’s better kept secrets. The Australian National Botanic Gardens are practically next door, which is perfect for morning walks before the crowds hit. Plus, you’re on the right side of town for hitting up the Belconnen markets on weekends. The staff genuinely know their stuff about getting around Canberra too – they’ll point you toward the less obvious attractions and actually useful bus routes. Parking’s never an issue, obviously, and the Wi-Fi reaches most areas of the park, though it can get a bit patchy during peak times. I stayed here during autumn and the noise levels were pretty reasonable – you get the occasional road noise from Northbourne Avenue, but nothing that kept me awake. The whole place has this relaxed, almost community feel where people actually chat to each other around the camp kitchen. Sure, the cabins aren’t luxury – they’re fairly basic with that slightly worn furniture you’d expect – but everything works and they’re genuinely clean. For what you’re paying, especially in a city where hotel prices can make your eyes water, it’s solid value that doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve compromised too much on comfort.

Very convenient location for me. Nice to have an independent cabin. Cabin was comfortable and clean if a bit dated. I didn’t eat there, but kitchen / dining table pretty small
Could be improved
Nothing to report other than the observation that the kitchen / living room furnishings look a little dated, but that’s fine

The parking for our car and van was not usable. The car only just fitted and the van had to be parked elsewhere.

Fantastic location and great facilities especially for kids with the pool and outdoor courts etc. It was lovely and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. What could be improved: The cabin shows general wear and tear and walls were dirty. Breakfast was a bit ordinary, no side plates given and it was hard to find a clean coffee cup - they were all...

Breakfast needs work, soggy hash browns, dried out mushrooms, over cooked eggs, toaster not turned on correctly. Coffee was fantastic.
