Adrift In Golden Bay- Absolute Beachfront Villas

52 Tukurua Road, 7182 Collingwood, New Zealand

Guest reviews: 9.8

HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of beachfront places over the years, but Adrift In Golden Bay actually lives up to its name – and honestly, that’s saying something. You pull up to 52 Tukurua Road and immediately get why this spot has a 9.8 rating. The villas are literally right on the sand, not “just a short walk to the beach” like so many places claim. I mean, you can hear the waves from your bed, which sounds cliché until you’re actually lying there at night with that gentle whoosh putting you to sleep.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to make luxury feel completely unstuffed, you know? The interiors have this relaxed elegance – think beautiful timber and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame Golden Bay like living artwork, but nothing so precious you’re afraid to put your feet up. The kitchens are properly equipped too (I’m talking real coffee makers, not those pod things), which matters when you’re in Collingwood where your dining options are… well, let’s just say you’ll want to cook some meals in. The deck situation is ridiculous – I spent most mornings out there with coffee, watching the tide roll in and out. You get the Kahurangi National Park as your backdrop, and on clear days you can see the hills rolling toward Farewell Spit.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me: Golden Bay gets busy in summer (January especially), but shoulder seasons are magic – fewer people, same incredible sunsets, and you’ll actually get decent restaurant bookings in town. The road in from Nelson is winding but worth it, just factor in the extra drive time. Parking’s easy right at the villas, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that hovering hotel lobby nonsense. The only tiny thing I’d change? Maybe some blackout curtains for those summer mornings when the sun comes up stupidly early and floods those gorgeous windows. But honestly, waking up to that view isn’t exactly a hardship. This place gets what luxury travel should be – spectacular location, thoughtful design, and enough space to actually relax instead of feeling like you’re living in someone else’s showroom.

Beautiful location. Our Villa overlooked the water. We enjoyed making breakfast each morning with the ingredients provided by the host.

What could be improved: Remote. Getting there requires driving over the pass on 60.

Spacious beautifully fitted out villa with beach views in a small cluster of other villas well separated and discrete plantings to maintain privacy. Beautiful breakfast hampers delivered each morning. Deep spa bath in large bathroom with underfloor heating. Extremely comfortable bed in bedroom with views to beach. Comfortable lounge area and dining table for two. Kitchen with all amenities excluding oven, but each villa has it's own BBQ

What could be improved: The whole experience was first rate.

We adored everything about this place, the view, the chalet, bathroom the breakfast basket delivered the night before. We cooked on the bbq quite a bit too. Loved we could do laundry freely after 5pm. The owners and staff were all super lovely too. It was spotlessly clean and really felt 5 star. We also really liked the area close to collingwood...

Loved we could do laundry freely after 5pm. The owners and staff were all super lovely too. It was spotlessly clean and really felt 5 star. What could be improved: Absolutely nothing can be improved here.
