First Impressions
When I first pulled up to 19 Park Views Just outside Penrith for Holidays and Short Breaks please no commercial vans thankyou, I’ll be honest — the name made me chuckle, but the setting immediately won me over. This four-star property sits in High Hesket, and there’s something refreshingly straightforward about a place that tells you exactly what it’s about right in the title. The views really are spectacular, stretching across rolling countryside that feels worlds away from any urban hustle, even though you’re just a short drive from Penrith.
Location & Surroundings
High Hesket is one of those villages that most people drive through without stopping, but staying here actually gives you the perfect base for exploring the Lake District’s quieter edges. You’re close enough to Penrith for supplies or a proper meal out, but far enough away that evenings are genuinely peaceful — no traffic noise, just the occasional sheep and maybe a tractor in the distance. The parking situation is brilliant too; there’s plenty of free space on-site, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re hauling luggage or planning day trips.
The Accommodation
The apartment itself feels like staying in someone’s well-loved country home rather than a sterile rental. There’s a proper kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking — I mean, you’ve got everything you need if you want to pick up local produce and make your own meals. The room layouts are thoughtful, with those park views the name promises visible from multiple windows. What struck me most was how quiet everything is; you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is rarer than it should be these days.
What Makes It Special
This place has earned its 9.3 rating honestly — it’s the kind of spot where small details add up to something memorable. The owners clearly understand that people come here to unwind, not to be impressed by fancy amenities they don’t need. Instead, you get reliable WiFi, comfortable beds, and that sense of space that’s hard to find in busier tourist areas. The fact that couples rate the location so highly (9.5 apparently) makes perfect sense when you experience those evening walks around the village yourself.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something genuinely restorative about staying somewhere this peaceful, especially if you’re used to city life. You know what really sells it though? It’s that combination of being remote enough to feel like a proper escape, but practical enough that you’re not roughing it or driving hours to find a decent restaurant. The no commercial vans policy might seem quirky, but it actually shows how much thought goes into maintaining the atmosphere here. People return because it delivers exactly what it promises — a proper break in beautiful countryside, without any pretense or unnecessary complications.
The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

A lovely space with ample space for a family, easy to find and has everything you need. We only stayed for the one night but would happily rebook if visiting the area for a longer holiday. Communication from the host was excellent and she went above that expected when we asked about where we could get breakfast locally. It would be a nice touch to...

The property was clean and well maintained. My friend and I stayed over for one night with our dogs and we enjoyed our stay. Jo was lovely, keeping us up to date on our stay and answered any questions we had. I don't think the photos do it justice.
