Whalers Rest
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Whalers Rest on SE 123rd Street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the unassuming exterior. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to show off. This four-star property sits quietly in Forfar, and there’s something immediately calming about the whole setup. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward — no circling blocks or paying ridiculous fees, just pull right up on site.
The Coastal Connection
The name gives it away, but Whalers Rest really does capture that Oregon coast feeling without being right on the beach. I mean, you’re still close enough to smell the salt air on certain days, but far enough inland to avoid the tourist crowds that can make coastal stays feel a bit chaotic. The property has this weathered charm that feels authentic rather than manufactured — like it’s been welcoming travelers for decades and knows exactly what it’s doing. There’s a genuine warmth to the place that makes you feel at home immediately.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of comfort and character that’s honestly hard to find these days. Nothing too fancy, but everything you actually need is there and works properly. The windows frame views of the surrounding landscape beautifully, and I found myself just sitting there in the morning with coffee, watching the light change. It’s the kind of place where you can actually unwind — no pressure to be anywhere or do anything except exist for a while.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about this spot: couples consistently rate the location incredibly highly, and after spending time here, I totally get why. There’s something romantic about the setting that doesn’t feel forced or overly staged. You’re positioned perfectly for exploring the Oregon coast when you want adventure, but you can also just stay put and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The recent guest ratings speak for themselves — this isn’t just marketing talk, people genuinely connect with this place.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about Whalers Rest is how it manages to feel both relaxing and engaging at the same time. You’re not stuck in some sterile hotel environment, but you’re also not roughing it or dealing with unnecessary complications. The staff seems to understand that sometimes travelers just want things to work smoothly without a lot of fuss. Whether you’re planning romantic getaways or just need a solid base for exploring this part of Oregon, there’s something genuinely appealing about the whole experience here. It’s earned its strong ratings through consistency rather than flashiness — and honestly, that’s exactly what I want when I’m trying to get away from everything for a few days.

Our cabin was wonderful, stocked with everything we needed, fresh clean linens and towels that smelled lovely, very comfy bed. The staff was friendly and directed us where to go to enjoy all of the perks of the park. Wonderful pool and hot tub, mini golf and pool tables. Not a long drive from Newport. Saved us a chunk of change compared to a hotel...
