VVF Normandie Veules-les-Roses
VVF Normandie Veules-les-Roses Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the VVF Normandie in Veules-les-Roses, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions bite you in the ass, because this little spot actually turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel smugly superior when you recommend it to friends.
The thing about Veules-les-Roses is that it’s not trying to be Deauville or Honfleur – it’s this tiny coastal village that most tourists completely miss, which honestly works in your favor. The hotel sits right in the heart of the Côte d’Albatre, and I mean literally a few minutes’ walk from what’s supposedly France’s shortest river (the Veules, all of 1.2 kilometers). Sounds gimmicky, but it’s actually pretty charming when you’re wandering around in the evening with nowhere urgent to be. The staff here gets that most people stumble upon this place rather than planning it as their main destination, so they’re genuinely helpful about pointing you toward the good stuff – like the little watercress farms along the river or the best spot on the pebble beach where the cliffs create this perfect wind break.
What surprised me most was how the hotel manages to feel both relaxed and well-run at the same time. Check-in was smooth (thank god, because I’d been driving for hours), parking is actually available without some complex reservation system, and the rooms are… well, they’re not going to win design awards, but they’re clean and comfortable with decent Wi-Fi. I stayed during shoulder season in late September, and it was blissfully quiet – you can hear the waves if you crack your window, which beats the hell out of traffic noise. The 8.3 rating makes total sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be a luxury resort; it’s more like that reliable friend who always knows where to find a good meal and a comfortable bed. The breakfast situation is solid too – proper coffee, local pastries, nothing fancy but done right. And here’s something I didn’t expect: the hotel actually connects you to hiking trails along the coast without having to drive anywhere. You can literally walk out the front door and be on the GR21 coastal path in ten minutes, which means you can hike those dramatic chalk cliffs to Dieppe or Saint-Valery-en-Caux depending on how ambitious you’re feeling. It’s the kind of place where you arrive planning to stay one night and end up extending because, honestly, where else are you going to find this combination of decent accommodations, legitimate natural beauty, and zero tourist crowds all in one spot?

Rather simple 70s/80's standard, enough space for a family with two or three smaller kids. The small extra bedroom is for maximum three smaller kids. Nice staff, helpful. The charming village and the beach is about a 15 minute walk away.

It was lovely. We were there during Scottish October break and the place was pretty much empty, very quiet. Indoor swimming pool was a huge bonus as well.

The family with three children had a vacation. The hotel exceeded expectations. The room was clean and had everything necessary for relaxation, except for toiletries. There was crisp white bedding, plenty of dishes, a kettle, a toaster, and cookware. Everything advertised on the website was present in the room. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the...

The indoor pool was nice during the cold weather, coldish water though.
