HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what struck me first about Villa Side Residence? It’s actually in a pretty sweet spot that most people don’t expect when they book Side hotels. I mean, everyone thinks Side is just ancient ruins and tourist traps, but this place sits right on Cumhuriyet Bulvari in Kumkoy – honestly, it’s like the locals’ secret that got out. The hotel itself has this understated elegance thing going on, not the flashy gold-everything vibe you get at some Turkish resorts. When I pulled up (parking was surprisingly easy, by the way), the building had this clean, modern look that somehow doesn’t clash with the historic area around it.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed the details without making a big show of it. The rooms are genuinely spacious – and I’m not talking about that “European spacious” where you can barely open your suitcase. The bathrooms actually have counter space, which honestly made my week since I’m one of those people who travels with way too many toiletries. The beds are properly firm, not that squishy hotel bed situation where you wake up feeling like you’ve been sleeping in quicksand. And here’s something you don’t often hear – the air conditioning actually works well and isn’t loud enough to keep you up at night. I stayed during late August when Antalya can be pretty brutal, and the rooms stayed comfortable even during the hottest part of the day.
The staff here really knows their stuff about the area too. The front desk guy (wish I remembered his name) gave me directions to this little family restaurant about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise – way better than the touristy spots near the main ruins. Speaking of which, you can actually walk to the Side ancient theater from here, though it’s a solid 15-minute walk, so don’t expect to pop over in flip-flops if you’re planning to explore properly. The beach access is decent – it’s not right on the sand, but the hotel beach club arrangement works well enough, and the shuttle runs regularly. I will say the pool area can get pretty crowded during peak hours (like 2-4 PM), but early morning and evening it’s actually quite peaceful. The breakfast spread is solid without being overwhelming – fresh bread, local cheeses, and they make a mean Turkish coffee if you ask nicely. For an 8.4 rating, this place definitely delivers on the promise of being a proper 5-star without the pretentious attitude that sometimes comes with it.
