Two bedroom Holiday home
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to this two-bedroom holiday home at Away resort on Hendra Croft, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The whole “unique boutique hotel without official star rating” thing had me curious, you know? But honestly, sometimes those unrated places end up being the most memorable, and this one actually delivers on that promise.
The location is pretty clever if you know this part of Cornwall. Goonhavern isn’t exactly on everyone’s radar – it’s sort of tucked between the chaos of Newquay and the quieter inland areas, which means you get the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to hit Perranporth beach (maybe a 10-minute drive) when you want proper sand and surf, but far enough from the hen party madness that descends on Newquay during summer. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Newquay has its place, but sometimes you just want to actually sleep at night, right? The holiday home sits within this resort setup that feels more like a small community than your typical hotel block – there’s proper parking (thank god, because Cornwall parking is… well, you know), and the whole area has this relaxed vibe that makes you slow down whether you want to or not.
What really won me over was how the space actually works for real people. The two bedrooms aren’t massive, but they’re thoughtfully laid out – you can actually open your suitcase without doing some sort of furniture gymnastics. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which matters when you’re staying more than a night and don’t want to eat every meal out (your wallet will thank you, trust me). There’s something refreshing about having a proper living area where you can spread out in the evening, maybe grab a bottle of wine from the local Spar and just decompress. The whole place has this comfortable, lived-in feel – not fancy in an intimidating way, but not shabby either. It’s like staying at a friend’s well-kept cottage, if that friend happened to have pretty decent taste in furniture.
The surrounding area rewards a bit of exploration – there’s a lovely walk through the countryside that locals showed me, and honestly, some of the best pub food I had in Cornwall was at places I’d never have found without wandering around Goonhavern. The tourist crowds thin out pretty quickly once you get away from the main coastal roads, and you start seeing the Cornwall that actually lives here year-round. For families or couples wanting a proper base to explore from – whether that’s the coastal path, the Eden Project (about 40 minutes away), or just discovering which beach becomes your favorite – this place gives you room to breathe and plan without feeling like you’re living out of a hotel room. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it’ll give you exactly what you need to have a proper Cornish holiday.
