The Station Hotel
You know what struck me first about The Station Hotel? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there on Snowy River Way – it’s got this unpretentious, practical vibe that feels perfectly suited to Jindabyne. I mean, this isn’t trying to be some fancy resort, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work.
The location is pretty smart if you think about it. You’re right in Jindabyne proper, which means you can actually walk to grab dinner or hit the shops without having to drive everywhere (parking can get ridiculous during ski season, trust me). The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense feel – it’s a 3-star place that knows what it is and doesn’t try to oversell you. The rooms are clean and warm, which is honestly the main thing you care about when you’ve been out on the mountain all day or exploring the lake area. The beds are decent – not amazing, but I’ve definitely slept worse in places that cost twice as much. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re not stuck way out in the middle of nowhere.
Here’s the thing about staying in Jindabyne – you’re basically using it as your base camp, whether you’re heading up to Thredbo and Perisher in winter or doing the lake thing in summer. The Station Hotel gets this. They’re not trying to keep you entertained with fancy amenities because, let’s be real, you’re probably going to be out exploring the Snowy Mountains or messing around on Lake Jindabyne most of the time anyway. The staff seem to understand the rhythm of the place too – they know when people are rolling in tired from the slopes or coming back from a day on the water. Check-in was straightforward, no fuss. The whole place has this lived-in comfort that you don’t always get at more polished hotels. I noticed they keep the heating solid (crucial in winter, obviously) and the water pressure is actually pretty good. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to warm up after a cold day outside. The 7.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what you need it to do without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re looking for somewhere reliable to crash in Jindabyne without paying resort prices, this place delivers.

The kids loved being able to explore the grounds and enjoy watching the kangaroos and their joey's. The accommodation had everything we needed.

One chair and no table in a room that slept up to six. Very basic amenities. Fairly pricey for what you get.

Good location. Only a couple minutes drive to town (Jindabyne) and 1/2 hour drive to ski fields. Bar and restaurant on site. Friendly and helpful staff. What could be improved: Room Description said linen provided but only a very thin blanket on the bed. Bathroom fan extremely noisy and water in shower not contained (wet floor). Thin walls, can...

We required somewhere clean, comfortable and warm for before and after watching our grandchildren in the inter-school skiing. There wasn’t drying facilities for skiing gear which was a problem.
Could be improved
No ski gear drying facilities. Being near the ski fields, I did expect better conditions for drying equipment.
