The Bliss
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to The Bliss on The Ridge West, I’ll be honest — the name had me a bit skeptical. But this four-star property actually lives up to its bold moniker in a refreshingly understated way. The building sits quietly on one of Hastings‘ elevated streets, and there’s something immediately calming about the whole setup. You know what struck me most? The fact that I could actually find a parking spot without circling the block three times — they’ve got free private parking right on site, which is honestly a godsend in this part of town.
The Setting
The Ridge West isn’t exactly central Hastings, but that’s sort of the point. You’re elevated above the main tourist bustle, which means you get these lovely glimpses of the surrounding countryside without being completely cut off from everything. I mean, you can still walk down to the Old Town when you want fish and chips or a proper seaside stroll, but up here there’s this peaceful residential feel that couples seem to absolutely love. The street itself is lined with Victorian houses, and The Bliss fits right in without trying too hard to stand out.
Inside Experience
The room I stayed in had this comfortable, lived-in elegance — not flashy, just thoughtfully put together. The windows are generous, so you wake up to natural light streaming in, and honestly, that makes such a difference when you’re trying to unwind from city life. What I appreciated was how quiet everything felt, even with other guests around. The common areas have this relaxed vibe where you might chat with someone over coffee, but nobody’s rushing around or making a fuss about anything.
Practical Comforts
Look, I’m not going to pretend this place reinvents the wheel, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that actually matters. The beds are properly comfortable — not too soft, not too firm — and the bathrooms are well-maintained without being overly fancy. There’s a restaurant on site that serves decent food, though I found myself wandering into town for dinner most evenings just because, well, you’re in Hastings and there are some brilliant local spots to explore. The staff strikes that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering, which I always appreciate.
Why Guests Love It
After spending a few days here, I can see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. It’s got that sweet spot of being peaceful and intimate without feeling isolated or boring. The free parking means you can easily explore the South Coast during the day — Rye is just a short drive, and the countryside around here is genuinely beautiful. But honestly, what makes The Bliss work is that it doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. It’s a solid, comfortable base where you can actually relax, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a hotel stay.

We had the best stay at The Bliss! We met some lovely people and their dogs and went for a lovely walk in the beautiful forest and saw the redwood trees, the lake and the monument! The caravan was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed! The wi fi was good and the tv and the caravan was close to the bins, the pool and the clubhouse.

Lovely caravan park, swimming pool fabulous, heated and perfect for children/families. Play area could have more but ok. Quite a hilly caravan park, this caravan not too far from the pool/clubhouse which was great. Caravan had all the facilities needed, very clean bed linen, great towels, caravan nicely placed for families.
