Tasman Holiday Parks – Rollingstone
You know what caught me off guard about Tasman Holiday Parks – Rollingstone? It’s actually tucked away on Hencamp Creek Road in this tiny coastal spot that most people just drive through on their way to Townsville. I mean, Rollingstone barely shows up on maps, but honestly, that’s part of what makes this place work so well. The moment you pull off the Bruce Highway and wind down that quiet road, you can literally feel your shoulders drop – it’s like the world just got a whole lot simpler.
The park itself sits in this sweet spot where the rainforest-covered hills roll right down to meet the Coral Sea, and I’ve got to say, they’ve done something right here because that 9.0 rating isn’t just lucky numbers. The cabins are properly maintained (not that fake-rustic stuff you see everywhere), and the powered sites are actually level – which anyone who’s tried to sleep on a wonky caravan mattress will appreciate. What really gets me though is how they’ve managed to keep it feeling like a proper Aussie holiday park without letting it get run down or overly commercialized. The amenities block is spotless, the camp kitchen has those big old tables where families end up chatting with each other, and there’s this genuine laid-back vibe that you don’t find at the flashier resorts up the coast.
Here’s the thing about the location that the brochures won’t tell you – you’re literally twenty minutes from Townsville if you need civilization, but when you’re sitting by your cabin in the evening, listening to the fruit bats in the paperbark trees and watching the sun set over Magnetic Island in the distance, you might as well be in the middle of nowhere. The beach access is the real winner though. It’s not some pristine Instagram beach (there’s a bit of seagrass, and the sand’s more golden than white), but it’s proper swimming water, and during the week you’ll often have huge stretches of it to yourself. The kids love fossicking around the rock pools at low tide, and honestly, I’ve seen some pretty spectacular sunrises from that shoreline – the kind that make you forget you’re supposed to be checking your phone. Check-in is refreshingly straightforward, parking’s never an issue, and the staff actually know the area well enough to point you toward the good fishing spots or tell you when the markets are on in nearby towns. It’s one of those places that gets the basics so right that you end up staying longer than you planned.

First time there. Impressed with the facilities. Did the fish feeding - just brilliant. We had a beach front unit - just loved it, sitting on the patio watching the tide come in.
