Surfrider Caravan Park
Honestly, when I first rolled up to Surfrider Caravan Park on Junction Road, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, caravan parks can be pretty hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away in Barrack Point, which if you’re not familiar with the area, is this lovely little coastal spot just south of Shellharbour that feels worlds away from the tourist madness you get further north.
What really gets me about Surfrider is how it manages to feel both relaxed and well-run at the same time. The sites are spacious enough that you’re not practically sharing breakfast with your neighbors, and there’s this genuine community vibe – people actually chat by the camp kitchen in the evenings instead of just hiding in their vans. The facilities are clean (always my first test of any caravan park), and honestly, the showers have better water pressure than my apartment back home. You’re literally a five-minute walk to some pretty decent beaches too, which is rare for accommodation that won’t break the bank. I spent most mornings with my coffee watching the locals walk their dogs along the shoreline before the day-trippers showed up.
The location is actually perfect if you want to explore the Illawarra coast without staying right in Wollongong. You’ve got Shellharbour Marina just up the road – great for fish and chips or if you want to book a fishing charter – and you can easily drive to places like Kiama or even do day trips to the Royal National Park. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional car on Junction Road, but it’s nothing compared to the highway noise you get at some parks. The only real downside? Well, it gets pretty busy during school holidays and long weekends, so book ahead if you’re planning to visit then. And if you’re one of those people who needs resort-style amenities, this probably isn’t your scene – it’s more about simple, honest accommodation that lets you enjoy the natural beauty of the area without fuss.
The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

The accommodation was perfect for the one night we spent there. The location is great! Close to shops, very close to the beach and close to Jamberoo, which is where we were going the following day. The staff is friendly over the phone and gave clear instructions as to where to find the keys after hours. What could be improved: The toaster didn't...

Everything, especially the staff and everything inside the cabin, was beautiful. I had all I needed for my stay. The fridge, Cooking utensils, kettle, coffee, sugar, tea, milk, microwave, and wi-fi were so good as well. A lot of places to eat around this place and very close to the beaches and the shops especially the "Shellharbour Shopping Centre,...
