HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, when I first pulled up to Sunis Kumköy Beach Resort, I wasn’t sure what to expect – you know how these beachfront places can go either way. But walking through those doors, there’s this immediate sense that they actually get it. The lobby’s got this warm, contemporary vibe without trying too hard to be fancy, and I mean, you can literally hear the Mediterranean lapping at the shore from the reception desk.
The thing about Kumköy is that it sits in this sweet spot between Side’s ancient ruins and the quieter stretches of coast. You’re not dealing with the chaos of downtown Side (though honestly, the nighttime crowds there can be fun), but you can still walk to the old Roman theater in about fifteen minutes if you’re feeling cultural. The hotel sits right on one of those gorgeous sandy stretches that the Turkish coast does so well – and I’ve got to say, their beach setup is actually thoughtful. They’ve got enough umbrellas and loungers without that awful sardine-can feeling you get at some resorts. The water here stays pretty calm most days, which is perfect if you’re traveling with kids or just want to float around with a drink.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how they handle the details. The spa – and I’m usually skeptical about hotel spas – actually knows what it’s doing. I did one of their Turkish bath treatments, and it felt authentic, not like some watered-down tourist version. The pools are well-maintained (you’d be surprised how many places mess this up), and there’s this adults-only section that’s perfect when you need a break from the family energy. Food-wise, they’ve got options that go beyond the typical resort buffet situation. Sure, there’s a buffet, but their à la carte restaurants are worth trying, especially the one that does fresh seafood – I had this grilled sea bass that was probably swimming that morning. The staff seems to genuinely care about getting things right, which you can feel in everything from how quickly they fix any room issues to remembering your coffee order after a couple days. I stayed in one of their sea-view rooms, and honestly, waking up to that view of the coastline stretching toward Manavgat never got old. Just fair warning – if you’re here in peak summer, it gets busy, but that’s true anywhere decent along this coast. Spring or early fall? That’s when this place really shines.
