Springhouse Country Park
You know what? I almost drove right past Springhouse Country Park the first time I visited – it’s tucked away in Slaley in a way that feels intentionally hidden, like someone wanted to keep it a secret from the masses. This isn’t your typical hotel experience, and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. The whole place has this boutique vibe that’s impossible to categorize (they don’t even bother with star ratings, which tells you something), but once you’re there, you get it.
The setting is what really gets you – we’re talking proper Northumberland countryside here, the kind where you can actually hear yourself think. I mean, Slaley isn’t exactly a household name, but that’s sort of the point. You’re about twenty minutes from Hexham if you need proper shops or restaurants, but the beauty is that you don’t really want to leave once you’ve settled in. The building itself has character in spades – you can tell someone put real thought into preserving whatever charm this place had originally while making it actually comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms feel lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense, with those little touches that suggest someone who actually stays in hotels designed this place.
What surprised me most was how quiet it gets at night – I’m talking about that deep countryside quiet where you notice sounds you’d forgotten existed. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward (always a relief when you’re hauling luggage), and check-in felt more like arriving at a friend’s place than the usual hotel rigmarole. The staff actually seem to know the area rather than just reciting scripted recommendations, which made a difference when I was trying to figure out the best walking routes. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy amenities or over-the-top service, but that 8.1 rating makes perfect sense once you understand what they’re going for here. This is the kind of place where you book a second night because you realize you’d forgotten what it feels like to properly unwind. If you’re looking for a genuine escape that doesn’t feel manufactured – and you don’t mind being a bit off the beaten path – Springhouse Country Park delivers in ways that bigger, more obvious choices simply can’t match.

The place is beautiful and in the middle of no where. If you don't need internet then this is wonderful. Internet is very spotty. But actually we enjoyed a week where no one could really ask us anything unless we were out. So if this is your sort of holiday, then go. We will be booking again, if really was a rest from the world.

clean, bright, modern and country feel. Nice meal at restaurant - we were unlucky due to time of year and time of break we only had one meal. Thought it might be better to have more of a cafe feel during the day ie breakfasts, light lunches and cakes. but it didn’t start till 5pm and it maybe is later on in year.
