First Impressions
When you first pull up to Springhouse Country Park, you’ll immediately understand why couples rate this place so highly. This four-star property sits in the heart of Northumberland’s countryside near Slaley, and honestly — the setting is just stunning. Rolling green hills stretch out in every direction, and there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you the moment you step out of your car. The buildings blend beautifully with the landscape, and you can tell they’ve put real thought into preserving the natural character of the area.
The Accommodation Experience
The room I stayed in was spacious and thoughtfully designed, with large windows that frame those gorgeous Northumberland views perfectly. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to balance modern comfort with that countryside charm — you get all the amenities you need without feeling disconnected from the natural surroundings. The beds are genuinely comfortable (which matters more than you’d think after a day of exploring), and the bathrooms are well-appointed. There’s also parking right outside, which is actually quite convenient when you’re hauling luggage or planning day trips around the region.
Dining and Local Flavors
The on-site restaurant serves up solid British fare with a focus on local ingredients, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re not going to find molecular gastronomy here, but what you will get is well-prepared, hearty food that hits the spot after a day outdoors. The breakfast spread is particularly good — proper full English options alongside lighter choices, and they source quite a bit from nearby farms. The staff actually knows where things come from, which I always find refreshing.
Location and Surroundings
Here’s what makes this place special — you’re positioned perfectly for exploring Northumberland National Park, but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. Hexham is about twenty minutes away when you need proper shops or restaurants, and you can reach Hadrian’s Wall sites pretty easily. The immediate area around Slaley is perfect for walking, and there are some lovely country pubs within a short drive. What couples seem to love most (and I can see why) is how peaceful it feels here — you can actually hear birds singing instead of traffic noise.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.1 rating really reflects what this place does well — it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top, but it delivers exactly what you want from a countryside retreat. The combination of comfortable accommodations, beautiful surroundings, and that genuinely peaceful atmosphere creates something quite special. You know what really stood out to me? The staff seems to understand that people come here to unwind, so they’re helpful without being intrusive. Whether you’re planning romantic walks, exploring historical sites, or just want to sit somewhere beautiful and read a book, Springhouse Country Park gives you the perfect base for a proper countryside escape.

The place is beautiful and in the middle of no where. If you don't need internet then this is wonderful. Internet is very spotty. But actually we enjoyed a week where no one could really ask us anything unless we were out. So if this is your sort of holiday, then go. We will be booking again, if really was a rest from the world.

clean, bright, modern and country feel. Nice meal at restaurant - we were unlucky due to time of year and time of break we only had one meal. Thought it might be better to have more of a cafe feel during the day ie breakfasts, light lunches and cakes. but it didn’t start till 5pm and it maybe is later on in year.
