Shoal Bay Holiday Park

Shoal Bay Holiday Park Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Shoal Bay Holiday Park on that winding stretch of Shoal Bay Road, I wasn’t expecting much. Holiday parks can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The moment you walk through reception, there’s this relaxed coastal vibe that immediately makes you forget about whatever traffic you just sat through getting here from Newcastle (and trust me, there will be traffic if you’re coming up on a Friday afternoon).
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Aussie beach holiday feeling without making it feel like a tourist trap. The cabins are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbor’s TV through paper-thin walls, and honestly, waking up to the sound of kookaburras instead of car horns was worth the drive alone. The grounds are surprisingly well-maintained – I mean, you can tell they actually care about the place rather than just collecting booking fees. There’s proper shade from established trees (crucial during those scorching February days), and the facilities are clean without being sterile. I particularly loved how they’ve kept some of the natural bushland intact around the edges of the property, so it feels like you’re actually staying somewhere special rather than just another concrete holiday park.
The real winner here is the location, though – you’re literally a five-minute walk to Shoal Bay Beach, which locals will tell you is one of the better kept secrets around Port Stephens. None of that Bondi Beach madness, just proper golden sand and water that’s actually swimmable. The park managers clearly know their stuff too; check-in was refreshingly straightforward (they actually seemed happy to see us), and when our cabin’s hot water played up on the second day, they had someone there within an hour. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to unwind. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy in some of the cabins further from reception – though honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of a beach holiday? You’ll find yourself spending most daylight hours either on the beach or exploring the headland walks anyway. It’s the sort of place where families come back year after year, and after spending a week there, I completely get why.

Perfect location, walking distance from everything. Very clean. Beautiful place to visit a wonderful part of the world
What could be improved: The neighbors were extremely rowdy for the 2 nights we stayed which I know was out of the hands of the owners, put a damper on the weekend.

Great location clean facilities
What could be improved: The safari tent was very noisy it was very windy night and the tent flapped all night so didn’t get much sleep and paid $217 per night which was disappointing.

This property was exceptionally clean and spacious for the two of us. We especially appreciated the full-size fridge and the fully equipped kitchen, including an oven. While the furniture could have been a bit more comfortable, the bed and linens were outstanding—truly hotel quality. The en-suite was also very roomy. The location was perfect,...

Close to the beach and family friendly.
What could be improved: How early everyone wakes up 🤣. But it was great.
