So, I’ll be straight with you about Selectum Colours Bodrum – it’s one of those places that looks absolutely stunning in photos, and honestly, it mostly delivers on that promise when you’re actually there. The hotel sits right in Gümbet Bay, which is maybe a ten-minute walk from the main strip where all the bars and restaurants cluster together. You know what I love about this spot? You get that proper Bodrum vibe without being right in the thick of the chaos that Gümbet town center can become, especially during those crazy summer nights when the British holidaymakers are out in full force.

The whole “colours” thing in the name actually makes sense once you see the place – there’s this really vibrant, almost Mediterranean-meets-modern-Turkish design throughout. I mean, it’s definitely aiming for that luxury feel with the 5-star rating, though honestly, the 7.2 guest rating tells you it’s not quite hitting perfection for everyone. The rooms are solid (I stayed in one of the sea-view ones, which I’d recommend if you can swing it), but some of the finishing touches felt a bit… well, like they were trying hard to be fancy without quite getting there. The breakfast spread is actually pretty impressive though – proper Turkish breakfast items alongside the usual international stuff, and they do this amazing menemen that I kept going back for.

What really works here is the location and the pool area. You’re literally steps from Gümbet Beach, which isn’t the prettiest beach on the peninsula (that’d be further around toward Bitez), but it’s perfectly decent for a morning swim before the sun gets too intense. The hotel’s pool gets busy around midday, but if you’re an early riser like me, you can basically have it to yourself with your coffee and that view across the bay toward Bodrum Castle in the distance. Parking was surprisingly easy – they’ve got their own spaces, which anyone who’s driven around Gümbet in August will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff generally know their stuff about getting you to the good spots too; they pointed me toward this little fish restaurant up in Türkbükü that I never would have found otherwise. Look, it’s not going to be the most authentic Turkish experience of your life, but if you want somewhere comfortable and well-located to base yourself while exploring the Bodrum peninsula, Selectum Colours does the job quite well.
