HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Ridos Thermal Hotel & Spa in Ilıca Köyü – you know how some places look amazing online but then you get there and it’s just… meh? Well, this place actually delivered, which surprised me given how remote it feels tucked into the mountains near İkizdere. The drive up from Rize city takes about an hour and gets pretty winding, but once you’re there, you sort of understand why they built it right here – it’s all about those natural hot springs bubbling up from the ground.
The thermal pools are honestly the main event, and I mean that in the best way possible. The outdoor pools have this incredible view of the surrounding valleys, and there’s something almost surreal about soaking in naturally heated water while you’re surrounded by all that green mountain landscape. The water has this slightly mineral smell – not unpleasant, just earthy and authentic – and it’s genuinely therapeutic if you’ve got any aches or just need to decompress. I spent way too much time in there during my stay, especially in the evenings when the crowds thin out and you can practically have the place to yourself. The spa treatments are pretty solid too, though I’d recommend booking early since they get busy, particularly on weekends when people drive up from the coast.
What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel upscale without being pretentious – the staff actually seems to care about what they’re doing, and the rooms are comfortable without trying too hard to impress. Mine faced the mountains, which meant I could crack the window at night and hear absolutely nothing but the occasional night bird. The restaurant serves a decent mix of Turkish and international food, though honestly, the local trout they get from somewhere nearby was the standout dish for me. Parking’s easy, check-in was smooth, and the whole property feels well-maintained without being sterile. If I had one complaint, it’d be that the Wi-Fi gets spotty in some parts of the building – not a huge deal if you’re there to unplug, but worth knowing if you need to stay connected. The 8.0 rating feels about right to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it promises to do really well, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

its a great gateway from the city. me and my wife enjoyed the spa and the thermal pools were refreshing. the hotel look vintage and beautiful. a day is enough for a couple to enjoy the hotel facilities as well as visiting the nearby villages.
