Resort Baia del Silenzio

You know what, Resort Baia del Silenzio is one of those places that completely surprised me when I first walked through the doors. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 4-star property, but this place has this warm, almost family-run feel despite being a proper resort. The location in Sestri Levante is absolutely perfect – you’re literally steps away from the famous Bay of Silence (which is what the hotel name means, and trust me, it lives up to it). The bay is this tiny, almost secret-feeling crescent of beach that locals still consider one of the Riviera’s hidden gems. You can walk there in maybe two minutes from the hotel, and honestly, early mornings when the mist is still hanging over the water? Pure magic.

The rooms themselves are comfortable without being fancy – I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or anything, but everything’s clean and the beds are surprisingly good. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night (the bay name isn’t just for show), though you might hear some street noise from Via Portobello if you’re facing that direction. The staff here genuinely seems to care – they remembered my name after the second day, which doesn’t happen everywhere. One thing to note about parking though – it’s a bit of a challenge during peak summer months. The hotel has some spots, but Sestri Levante gets pretty packed, especially near the train station area and around Via Roma where all the main shops are.

Well, here’s what really sold me on this place: the hotel restaurant actually serves decent local food (shocking, I know – hotel restaurants are usually terrible). They do this amazing focaccia col formaggio that rivals what you’ll get down at the harbor restaurants near the pier. The whole vibe is just… relaxed, you know? You’re close enough to walk to everything – the colorful houses along the waterfront, the little gelato spots on Via XXV Aprile, even the hiking trails that lead up to the peninsula viewpoints. Summer evenings can get a bit busy since day-trippers from Cinque Terre often stop here, but by 7 PM most of them head back and you get that peaceful atmosphere again. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s got that sweet spot of being comfortable without being pretentious, and the location really can’t be beat if you want to experience this part of the Italian Riviera without the crowds of the more famous spots.
