Résidence Néméa les Portes des Cévennes

Résidence Néméa les Portes des Cévennes Overview
So I ended up at Résidence Néméa les Portes des Cévennes last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. You know how sometimes a hotel looks fine online but then you arrive and there’s that slightly awkward moment where you’re like “okay, this is… different than expected”? Well, this wasn’t that. The residence sits right on Route de Logrian in Sauve – which, if you haven’t been to this part of Languedoc, is basically this charming medieval town that most tourists completely miss on their way to Montpellier or Nîmes.
What struck me first was how quiet it actually gets here, especially in the evenings. I mean, you’re technically on a route, but it’s not like you’re dealing with highway noise or anything. The setup is more like apartment-style accommodations than your typical hotel rooms, which honestly makes sense for families or if you’re planning to stay more than a couple nights. The kitchenettes are actually functional – I’m talking real counter space and a fridge that doesn’t sound like it’s dying. There’s something refreshing about being able to grab fresh produce from the Saturday market in Sauve’s town center (just a few minutes’ walk, by the way) and actually cook something decent. The pool area gets pretty busy during July and August, but if you time it right – early morning or that golden hour before dinner – you’ll basically have it to yourself.
Here’s what I really appreciated though: the staff actually knows the area. When I asked about hiking trails into the Cévennes foothills, the woman at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – she drew me a little map showing where to park near the old silk mill ruins and which path has the best views without being too brutal in the heat. That’s the kind of local knowledge you don’t get at chain hotels. The whole Sauve area is perfect if you want to explore but don’t want to deal with tourist crowds. You’re about forty minutes from Montpellier if you need city amenities, but close enough to places like the Cirque de Navacelles that you can do proper day trips without spending half your vacation in the car. Sure, it’s a solid 3-star place rather than luxury – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and don’t expect room service – but there’s something genuinely relaxing about the whole setup. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because you’re not stressed about anything.
