First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Pio Pico Camping Resort Studio Cabin 10, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a camping resort in Jamul. But you know what? This four-star spot surprised me in the best way. The cabin sits tucked away on Otay Lakes Road, and there’s something immediately calming about being surrounded by all that open space and rolling hills. It’s not your typical hotel experience — it’s more like having your own little retreat where you can actually hear yourself think.
The Cabin Experience
The studio cabin itself is compact but thoughtfully designed, with everything you need without feeling cramped. What I really appreciated was the kitchenette — nothing fancy, but perfect for making morning coffee or heating up leftovers from your adventures. The room has this cozy, rustic charm that feels authentic rather than trying too hard. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, and I mean, waking up to those views of the surrounding countryside? That’s worth the drive alone.
Location & Surroundings
Here’s the thing about Jamul — it’s one of those places that locals know about but tourists often miss. You’re about 30 minutes east of San Diego, which means you get the best of both worlds: easy access to the city when you want it, but complete peace when you don’t. The Otay Lakes are practically next door, and if you’re into hiking or just want to escape the crowds, there are trails everywhere. Free parking right on site means you don’t have to worry about your car, which is honestly a relief when you’re staying somewhere this tucked away.
What Makes It Special
The resort has this laid-back, unpretentious vibe that I found really refreshing. It’s not trying to be a fancy resort — instead, it’s focused on giving you a genuine connection with the outdoors. The recent guests have been rating the location pretty highly (8.1 out of 10), and I can see why. There’s something about the combination of being close enough to civilization but far enough away to feel like you’ve escaped that really works here. The nights are incredibly quiet, which is rare these days.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really get what this place is about — it’s got that romantic, getaway-from-it-all feeling without being overly isolated. You can spend your days exploring the lakes, hiking the local trails, or just sitting outside your cabin watching the sunset over the hills. The fact that it’s a camping resort means you’re surrounded by people who chose to be here for the nature and tranquility, not because they wanted a party scene. If you’re looking for something different from the usual hotel experience and want to reconnect with the outdoors (and each other), this little cabin delivers exactly that.
Holiday resort villages blend thatched-roof villas, all-day dining, and gardens that open straight onto the sand.

The park is located in a secluded canyon with with plenty of hiking but is also convenient to shopping, restaurants and the south county beaches. Pet friendly lodging and amenities makes it easy to take your best friend along. Cabins are clean and comfy and the staff is helpful and friendly.
