Nick’s Retreat

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? Nick’s Retreat is one of those places that completely defies what you’d expect from a holiday park accommodation. I mean, when someone says “Todber Valley Holiday Park” you’re probably thinking static caravans and maybe a clubhouse with karaoke nights, but this place is honestly something else entirely. It’s tucked away in the Ribble Valley countryside just outside Gisburn – proper Lancashire farming country where you can actually see the stars at night and the biggest noise you’ll hear is sheep complaining about something.
The thing that strikes you first is how Nick has managed to create this boutique hotel feel without any of the pretentious nonsense you get at those places charging £300 a night. The rooms have this really thoughtful design – I’m talking proper attention to detail, not just thrown-together holiday park furniture. The beds are seriously comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), and there’s this lovely mix of modern amenities with countryside charm that doesn’t feel forced. What really got me was the breakfast setup – they’ve clearly put thought into sourcing local stuff, and you can taste the difference. The coffee’s actually decent too, which honestly surprised me because let’s face it, most places in rural Lancashire think instant coffee is perfectly acceptable.
Location-wise, you’re about ten minutes from Clitheroe if you need proper shops or a night out, but the real appeal is being right in the heart of some gorgeous walking country. The Pennine Way runs nearby, and if you’re into that sort of thing, you can walk to Pendle Hill from here – though it’s a proper hike, not just a gentle stroll. The A59 is close enough that you’re not completely cut off from civilization, but far enough that you won’t hear traffic. Parking’s never an issue, which is more than I can say for most places worth visiting these days. I’d definitely recommend booking ahead though, especially during summer or if there’s anything happening in Clitheroe – word’s getting out about this place and it shows. The 9.5 rating isn’t just people being generous; Nick’s genuinely created something special here in what could easily have been just another forgettable holiday park accommodation.

We stayed at Nick's retreat for a long weekend whilst attending a wedding nearby. It was a beautiful place to stay whilst exploring the local town of Clitheroe and spent some quality time together. I forgot tea bags and was very grateful there were some already in 🤣
