HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Mukarnas Spa & Resort in Okurcalar – I mean, this stretch of coast between Alanya and Side has so many resorts that they sort of blur together from the road. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about Okurcalar is that it’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe – close enough to Alanya (maybe 30 minutes) that you can easily hit up the castle and old town when you want some culture, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds every day. Mukarnas really takes advantage of this location too. Their beach setup is genuinely impressive, not just the usual narrow strip of sand with cramped loungers. The Mediterranean here has that gorgeous turquoise thing going on, and the hotel’s beach attendants actually seem to care about keeping things clean and organized – which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at Turkish resorts.

What really got me though was the spa situation. I’ve done the whole Turkish bath experience at plenty of places, but theirs felt authentic without being touristy, if that makes sense. The hamam attendant knew exactly what she was doing, and afterwards you can literally spend hours in their thermal pools. The whole spa complex has this almost cave-like feel with natural stone everywhere – really relaxing after you’ve been baking in the sun all day. The food’s another highlight that caught me off guard. Sure, it’s buffet style for most meals, but they’ve got live cooking stations where the chefs actually put effort into what they’re making. Their fresh fish is particularly good (probably helps being right on the Med), and I was pleasantly surprised by how many local Turkish dishes they included alongside the usual international stuff. Pro tip: try to grab dinner early, around 7 PM, before the evening crowd hits and everything gets picked over.

The rooms are solid – nothing revolutionary, but clean with decent air conditioning (crucial in summer) and most have balconies with at least partial sea views. Check-in was smooth, staff speaks good English, and honestly the whole operation just feels well-managed. The pool area can get pretty busy during peak season, especially with families, but if you’re okay with that energy it’s actually kind of fun. There’s enough space that it never feels claustrophobic.

Look, I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t some boutique hideaway or ultra-luxury experience. It’s a well-run resort hotel that delivers exactly what it promises. The 8.6 rating makes sense because everything just works here. If you want to relax by the beach, get some good spa treatments, eat decent food, and have easy access to explore the Turkish Riviera without breaking the bank, Mukarnas hits all those marks. Just don’t expect to have the place to yourself – it’s popular for a reason.

I never understand why people complain about All inclusives having a slightly samey buffet, it's not easy to satisfy everyone, but this hotel sure tried its very best to make sure they did. We loved Turkish night, French night, and every variation that was offered. The lunchtime snackbar also provided some lovely lunchtime food that you could eat while looking out at the beach.

Eveyone who served us did so with a smile. The room service lady was fantastic, and when I had made a request to reception and they had messaged her, she saw me in the corridoor, nowhere near my room, and recognised me, and assured me that my request would be taken care of, and it was.

The lady who served us at breakfast and lunch was amazing, making a fuss of our 8 year old, and making sure we had a table of eight waiting for us every morning, and if required, at the snackbar at lunch. She had our juice waiting for us in the morning, and made sure we all had coffees brought to us as soon as we finished our last one.

Wherever you sat in the hotel grounds if you asked one of the staff to bring you a drink they did, whether it was in the grand reception area, the poolside, or even on the pier over the sea, they served you with a smile and cleared your empty glasses/dishes.

A place this large is hard to keep looking tidy, but the grounds staff were out every day trimming trees, weeding flowerbeds and generally keeping the place looking clean and smart.

The entertainment team worked hard all day and evening to make sure that anyone who wanted to join in the fun had an opportunity to do so. We didn't join in much, but enjoyed watching others. AMAZING STAY!!
