The resort restaurant’s solid – they do this Central Otago lamb that’s actually worth the price – but honestly, sometimes you just want a meat pie from the bakery on Melmore Terrace, you know? Staff seemed to get that balance too; helpful without hovering, which can be tricky at places trying this hard to be upscale. Check-in was smooth, parking’s never an issue (thank god, because some of these lakefront places make you hike half a kilometer with your bags), and the pool area actually gets afternoon sun, which matters more than you’d think in shoulder season. The 8.7 rating feels about right – it’s doing almost everything well without being stuffy about it.
